Chris Riliey scored a top 5 finish in Moto
One folowed by the Holeshot in Moto Two |
In moto two, it was Chris Riley who grabbed the
holeshot followed by Justin Noss, Dustin Nelson,
Josh Frederick and Jason Fife. Brandon Smith, who
was late getting to the line and didn’t get
a good gate pick, was right in the mix, but Smith
got bumped in the 1st turn, which sent him on a
wild ride over the berm and through a crowd of spectators.
“I don’t know how I saved it!”
said Smith, who miraculously held on through the
whole ordeal. Luckily neither Smith nor any spectators
were injured during Smith’s detour. Brandon’s
off-track excursion sent him to the back of the
pack, which allowed Dustin Nelson to eventually
make the pass on Noss and Riley and check out and
eventually build an 8 second lead, which left Frederick,
Noss, Fife and Riley in a heated battle for second.
As those four continued to battle back and forth,
Smith began working his way back to the front. Smith’s
determination allowed him to regain 2nd place, but
there was not enough time for him to catch up to
Nelson before crossing the finish line.

Dustin
Nelson took home the $1,400 Check for his
win & extended his points lead to 23
points over Josh Frederick |
As the checkered flag was waved, Dustin Nelson grabbed
the win. “To go 1-1 is never a bad thing!”
said Dustin happily. “I feel kind of vindicated
now after pretty much giving away the win at the
last round,” Dustin said in regards to a last
lap bobble at round three that allowed Smith to
take the win just before the finish line. Brandon
Smith’s 2-2 finish landed him in a solid 2nd
overall, while Josh Frederick’s 3-4 landed
him the last spot on the podium. Jason Fife’s
4-5 finish earned him 4th overall and Justin Noss
rounded out the top five. Round five of
the ITP Quadcross series heads back to Glen Helen
Raceway in San Bernardino, CA on July 20th, where
the scorching summer heat and dust could play
a key roll in racer performance.
