Can-Am GNCC Racing - Grand National Cross Country Racing Series

West Virginia's Adam McGill Brings the Noise at Snowshoe GNCC
Yamaha's Bill Ballance & Jarrod McClure Podiums

Snowshoe, WV - Adam McGill admitted he used the summer break from the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series to get back into the game. Into the game he got Saturday as McGill, who lives just west of Clarksburg, W. Va., won Saturday's Pro ATV portion of the Moose Racing Snowshoe GNCC. The race marked the beginning of the fall swing for America's largest off-road racing series.

McGill (No. 5 KTM) traded the lead twice with Chris Borich (No. 2 Team Rockstar/Suzuki) and just held off eight-time GNCC Champion Bill Ballance (No. 1 Yamaha) at the end to notch the victory, his fourth this season. Jarrod McClure (No. 14 ATVRiders.com/Honda) finished third, marking his second podium of the season.

McGill now has the most victories of any single Pro rider on the tour. The victory was also McGill's first since late April.

"It was a phenomenal thing to run up front and to get a win at home," said McGill. "We had some bad luck the whole way, but the team always stayed behind me. They kept their heads down and worked hard."

Ballance, who was still suffering the after effects of a two broken ribs sustained last week while practicing for this race, was right on McGill's rear bumper throughout the final lap around the 14-mile course.

"I have a huge amount of respect for Bill, both on a professional and personal level," said McGill. "It was a little scary seeing him behind me at the end, but I just put the pedal to the metal on this KTM and I had the bike I needed at the end.

"The crew really did a great job putting this bike together," concluded McGill.

Ballance retains the points lead going into the next race, scheduled for Sept. 27 in New Berlin, N.Y.

GNCC Racing Notebook:

CAN-AM CLEANS UP...Can-Am won all three Utility Class races on Saturday. Can-Am riders Michael Swift (4X4 Unlimited), Jerime Dudding (4X4 Lites) and Scott Kilby (4X4 Open) all carried the Can-Am colors into victory lane.

WEATHER WOES...Though fog and rain enveloped Snowshoe Mountain early on Saturday, slight schedule changes and hard work by the GNCC staff allowed Junior and Amateur ATV racing to go with little drama. The fog lifted late in the morning, allowing the afternoon events to run under partly cloudy skies.

YOKLEY COMMEMORATES...William Yokley was honored this weekend by sponsor The National Guard with commemorative coins featuring a likeness of Yokely's ATV.

GRAND PRIX...Saturday's ATV racing featured Grand Prix-style starts, running down the main road in front of Snowshoe Village.

SPOTTED...ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA ATV Pro National Championship standout rider Pat Brown competed in Saturday's XC-1 Pro Class race.
