Elizabeth City, NC (8/25/2007) -
Round 6 of the Extreme Dirt Track Series at Dixieland
Speedway in Elizabeth City, NC just wrapped up,
and it was Curtis Sparks Racing’s Shane
Hitt claiming his second Pro ATV win of the season
followed by Frank Batista and Chuckie Creech.
For the first time this year, there wasn’t
over 20 Pro riders signed up, so there were only
two Heat races with 9 Pros per heat. In Heat One,
Michael Coburn secured the win with Harold Goodman
getting a slow jump off the line, which he wasn’t
able to recover. Goodman would end up being forced
to start on the second row for the Pro Main.
“I screwed up and didn’t get a good
jump off the line, and I was squeezed out, heading
down the stretch” said Goodman.
In the second Heat, Frank Batista was able to
hold off Shane Hitt to secure the win and recorded
the fastest Heat race of the two, which earned
Batista the first gate pick for the Main Event.
Batista capitalized on his gate pick and grabbed
the Holeshot over Shane Hitt & Mitch Reynolds
with Chuckie Creech, Michael Coburn, and Darin
Ogden in chase. Harold Goodman found himself back
near the rear of the pack after a rough first
lap.
Out front, the Top 5 remained tight as they raced
around the track with Hitt applying the pressure
to Batista for 5 to 6 laps before he was finally
able to make the pass around the first turn sweeper
and take over the lead.
On the final lap of the race, JB Racing's Mitch
Reynolds spun out in the infield while running
in third behind Hitt and Batista, which opened
the door for Chuckie Creech to claim the final
Podium position.
With Shane Hitt claiming his second win of the
year and Harold Goodman finishing back in 8th
place, Hitt moved within only 2 points of Goodman
in the points lead with just two rounds of racing
left on the schedule.
