Danvile, VA - Finally, the ATVA Extreme
Dirt Track Series was able to wrap-up a day of racing
without having to deal with the threat of rain, but Honda’s
Tim Farr was able to throw some water on Keith Little’s
fire as he takes the win in the Pro Main with Little finishing
in second place ahead of Shane Hitt and Harold Goodman.
The Birch Creek event attracted a descent turnout with
339 race entries, and the Pro Class had an impressive
24 entries, which shows the Extreme Dirt Track Series
is alive and well as it continues to attract even more
racers to test their ability to conquer the oval.
With a huge Pro turnout, the riders were split up into
heat races to narrow down the field with Tim Farr, Keith
Little, and Harold Goodman claiming the heat race wins,
and Tim Farr recorded the fastest heat race, so he received
first pick for the main.

#81 Chris Gary Wins first race of the sesaon and
ties Mitch Reynolds for the Pro Am Unlimited Points
Lead. |
As usual, the Pros normally complete in the Pro Am Unlimited
and/or Pro Am Production classes to get in some extra
seat time on the track prior to the Pro Main, and Tim
Farr decided to use the Pro Am Unlimited class as his
testing grounds, and he took the first Moto win over Chris
Gary, but Farr sat out the second Moto, which opened the
door for Chris Gary to capture his first win of the season.
The win by Gary was enough to move him into a tie for
the points lead with Mitch Reynolds finishing the day
in fourth place behind Jason Lewis and Clayton Smith.

#2 Darin Ogden has made his return to racing EDT
racing, and finished 3rd in Pro Am Production |
The Pro Production class had Keith Little and Harold Goodman
battling for the win in the first Moto with Little bringing
home yet another win, but it would be his last win of
the weekend because during the second Moto Main, Little
blewup his engine, which left him out of the running and
allowed Harold Goodman to claim the win followed by Mitch
Reynolds with an impressive run, and Darin Ogden rounded
out the top three in his first event of the year.
With less than an hour to the Pro Main, Keith Little
rushed back to his trailer to quickly remove his race
engine and drop in a backup engine for the Pro Main,
which was reminiscent of last year’s Round 4 in
Elizabeth City, NC when Little blew up his engine during
the Pro Am Production race, and he wasn’t able
to get it replaced and ready for the Pro Main as it
was leaking oil as he headed to the starting line. His
team frantically tried to stop the leak, and he was
able to start the race only to have the engine fail
a few laps into the race, which ruined Little’s
chance for a repeat Championship.
Fortunately, history didn’t repeat itself exactly
this year as Keith Little along with Scott Butler were
able to have the engine replaced with time to spare
before the Pros were called to the starting line shortly
before 10PM.

Tim Farr was able to out run Harold Goodman and
Keith Little down the stretch for the Holeshot |
>With the Pro field narrowed down to 20 riders, they were
lined up three rows deep with 8-8-4 rider lineup, and
after a series of rider interviews, it was time for the
start of the race with Tim Farr grabbing the Holeshot
followed by Harold Goodman, Keith Little, Shane Hitt,
and Adam Anderson. The front runners remained unchanged
for the first half of the race with Tim Farr pulling away
from Harold Goodman in second place while Little and Hitt
remained in hot pursuit.
With Tim Farr holding a commanding lead, his White
Brother’s carbon fiber silencer began to breakup,
and the packing began flowing out of the silencer and
wrapping around Farr’s rear axle forming a huge
spoil of packing, which left everyone in suspense wondering
if Farr would be able to maintain the lead or even finish
the race. Meanwhile, in back to back laps, both Keith
Little and Shane Hitt passed Harold Goodman and began
their charge together after Farr in the lead.
|
|
Harold
Goodman held the second spot until the halfway
point of the race with both Keith Little and Shane
Hitt making pass to drop Goodman back to fourth |
The
sole Yamaha rider in the top 10, Adam Anderson,
felt the pressure of Darin Ogden and Scott Morris
for the entire race with Morris eventually passing
Ogden |
By the tenth lap, Tim Farr began to lap riders, and
he utilized the entire track to work his way around
each approaching rider by craving to the inside or going
high up on the turn to make the pass with his Baldwin
Engine continuing to plug away despite losing most of
the packing in the silencer, and Tim Farr was able to
take it to the checkered flag with his second official
win of the year followed by Keith Little and Shane Hitt.
Amazingly, Tim Farr lapped half the Pro riders on his
way to the win.
|
Tim Farr's Exhaust and axle wrapped with packing
after the race |
Tim Farr’s win boosted him to a 9 point lead
over Keith Little in second place and 26 points ahead
of Harold Goodman in third, but with four rounds remaining
and no throwaways anything can happen as both Tim Farr
and Keith Little know too well from past experience.
The next round of the Extreme Dirt Track Series will
be held at the famous Pine Lake in Ashtabula, OH for
a two day event on July 22/23, which provides for a
full weekend of racing action.
