Brashear, TX (5/8/06) - The opening round
of the Extreme Dirt Track Series promoter Terry Reynolds
faced several uphill battles to kick off the season as
he was faced with rain, trains, and ATVs. After a beautiful
day of practice on Friday, the rain arrived overnight,
but unfortunately the event trophies and t-shirts still
haven’t arrived because the UPS trained derailed
in route to Texas, which left Terry Reynolds scrambling
to produce trophies in time for the race, and he would
just have to go without the t-shirts for the weekend.
Luckily a local company was able to produce the trophies
on short notice, which put one issue behind him, but now
he had a bigger problem on his hands with Mother Nature.
Saturday morning, the track was a muddy mess with puddles
everywhere, but Reynolds wasn’t ready to throw
in the towel, so he began enlisting as many riders as
possible including ATVA President, Doug Morris, to go
out and start rolling in the track shortly after noon
in hopes of getting in some racing, and by 2 PM, the
track was in race ready condition. Without wasting anytime,
the heat racing got underway, and they were able to
get through all but two of the heat races before the
rain moved back in and shutdown the track for the remainder
of the evening as it rained into the night.
Once again, the track was a muddy mess Sunday morning
and it remained overcast and misty, but Terry was determined
to finish out the racing this weekend, so at 8AM, they
started rolling in the track in hopes the rain was finally
over, and fortunately for everyone that made the long
trip to Texas, the rain had its last hoorah and was
over.
The remaining heat races were run, and the heat race
results were used as the final results in order to wrap
things up early for the amateurs, so they could get
started on the long drive home for many from the East,
which left plenty of time for the Pro Heats and the
Pro Main Event.

Harold Goodman did everything he could to prevent
#4 Tim Farr from making the pass, but Farr still
managed to squeeze past him for the Win! |
It
was a red podium with Honda 450R's sweeping it.
The win by Tim Farr surely was a confidence booster
after struggling to finish a Moto at the MX Nationals. |
The Pro Class had nearly 30 riders signup to compete,
which was an impressive turnout, and the riders were
split up into 3 different heats to narrow down the field
to 20 for the Main Event. The start of the Pro Main
had Harold Goodman grabbing the Holeshot with Tim Farr
and Keith Little right behind him. Goodman would maintain
the lead for several laps, before Tim Farr was able
to slice his way around Goodman on the inside and take
over the lead. Farr was as smooth as silk this weekend
on the extremely rough course from all the rain, and
he went on easily to take the win followed by Goodman
and Little. Shane Hitt would finish out the weekend
in 4th place ahead of Daryl Rath as the Honda 450R sweep
not only the Podium, but also the top 8 positions in
the Pro Class.
|
#131 Samuel A. Mcclure was catching some air as
he went on to take the Heat win in the Vet Class,
but he would finish second to Marc Noreuil in
the final results |
In the Pro Am Unlimited, Mitch Reynolds took the win
while he finished third in the Pro Am Production Class
with Harold Goodman taking the win followed by Keith
Little. Candace Lee picked up where she left off last
year with the Women’s Class win over Bailey Williams
with Paula Shank finishing in third place.
If it weren’t for Terry Reynolds determination,
the opening round would have been a disaster, but he
wouldn’t give up. While Terry battled to overcame
all the obstacles off the track, his son, Mitch Reynolds,
put in a great weekend on the track, which surely made
it all worth while for this racing family.
A complete forum race report with all the event details
will be posted within a few days covering some of the
pro class and some of the amatuer classes. Also, pro
interviews and and race videos will be available as
well.
