Brashear, TX – The
final round of the Extreme Dirt Track Series is in the record
books even though Mother Nature tried to cut the series
short with Hurricane Rita forcing the event to be postponed
one week, but the weather this weekend was calm with no
pending hurricanes lurking in the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf
of Mexico, but it was definitely hot with temps in the 90’s.
The rider turnout for the final round was below average
with only around 200 riders making the long trip to Texas,
which still wasn’t bad considering gas prices soaring
to over $3.00 per gallon in many parts of the Country and
the race being rescheduled.
For many the Championship was one the line and after traveling
to the previous five races, they weren’t going to
let anything stand in the way of them going to Texas for
a chance at the Championship, and the trip was worthwhile
for several riders in the amateur races that it came down
to the final race of the season to determine the class champion.
The Pro Championship was also on the line with Tim Farr(115
Points) in the lead followed by Darin Ogden(107 Points)
and Keith Little(105 Points). Last year, Keith Little(Lonestar
Racing) was able to win the Championship in the final round,
and he once again gave it his all this year by working his
way into the lead and winning the Pro Class, but Tim Farr(Baldwin
Racing) knew what he had to do to win the championship and
finishing right behind Little in second place was more than
enough to win the Championship by five points over Little.
The win by Little did move him past Darin Ogden(K&K
ATV) in points after Ogden finished in fourth place behind
Shane Hitt who lead early in the race, but a bobble over
a jump dropped Hitt back to third where he stayed to the
finish line.
The third place finish by Shane Hitt was enough to move
him up to fourth place in points past fellow Suzuki rider
Harold Goodman who couldn't attend this weekend's event
due to a prior commitment to race at another event. This
has been a trying year for Shane Hitt with his comeback
from several ankle surgeries and readjusting to his new
ride the Suzuki LTZ400 all at the same time, so he started
off the season rocky and finished out the year with two
back to back podium finishes and the TT legend Shane Hitt
is finally back.
The second place finish this weekend gave Tim Farr his announced
tenth Championship of his career including the Pro Quads
Series, and it couldn’t come at a better time after
signing another two year deal with Honda. “I just
got in a groove and tried to ride smart, so I could win
the Championship,” Farr Said, and he did exactly that
by keeping himself firmly planted between Little and Hitt.
“I just rode around and finished, so I wouldn’t
risk wrecking into either of them out front running for
the championship,” said Hitt. A multi-time champion
himself knows how important each race is in EDT and didn’t
want to be a deciding factor, which was extremely honorable
on his part.
Darin Ogden had his championship hopes taken away by
finishing in 4th place barely ahead of Brad Covington.
“I knew it was coming down to the last race, and
I knew what I had to do, but I just got tired, plan and
simple,” said Ogden. “I had a good bike, but
I just got tired.” It was a tough break for Ogden,
but his third overall finish for the year where he earned
his first overall win at Elizabeth City is definitely
something to be proud of as a privateer.
The Extreme Dirt Track Series has now officially been
wrapped up, but the coverage from the event is far from
over, so check back for a complete race report of the
Pros and Amateurs along with photos, but until then, here
are some of the results from Round #6 Bullet Speedway.
