Round #4 - Links

Ashtabula, OH (7/24/2014) – The ATV Extreme Dirt Track National Championship Series headed, for their fourth round of racing, to the Pine Lake Track and Trails facility nestled in the small town of Jefferson, located in Northern Ohio. The weather seems to be one step ahead of us however, whenever we come to Pine Lake Mother Nature has the weekend planned out for us before we even get their. Friday’s practice day was beautiful but as soon as the lights went out, the rain moved into town. Saturday was doused in rain but that didn’t stop the pit bike wheelie contest or the annual hare scramble races from happening. This in turn meant the laps were to be cut for Sunday’s EDT races to try and fit everything into one day, which went off without a hitch.

Nineteen Pro racers headed to the line for the main event while the outer skirt of the Pine Lake track was packed with fans. Off the start, the race was immediately red flagged due to someone false starting and the entire pack needed to line up again.

Upon the restart, it was TC Racing Engine’s Garrett Ryckman with the commanding holeshot and the lead for a couple of laps.

MAXXIS Tires / Two Se7en Motorsports / DASA’s Brad Riley wanted nothing to do with sitting in his third place position, where he came off the line. Riley was tucked in behind Michael Coburn who was also pursuing Ryckman who was up front. About three laps in Riley was able to make his way past both Coburn and Ryckman and into the lead position. Riley was then able to not only hold onto the lead position for the remaining laps but actually put a very sizable lead on the rest of the pack as they battled behind him.

“My DASA engine, Houser components and MAXXIS tires all hooked up and were working perfect today in Ohio and got me off to a pretty good start and I was able to get around Ryckman and Coburn and ride my own race. The track was awesome and I couldn’t be happier coming out of here with another win and more points for the championship,” said Riley.

PEP / FLY Racing / Hoosier’s Michael Coburn was on the attack in the Pro class as well coming off the line in a great position heading into the first corner with a second place spot. Coburn was being chased down fiercely by Riley who was on his way to the front of the pack.

Michael Coburn EDT Racing

Coburn was able to hold him off for only a couple of laps when Riley was able to sneak by. Coburn however, was able to make a pass on Ryckman during the early part of the race and then separated himself from the rest of the pack and set on a pace to pursue Riley. Coburn went uncontested for the remainder of the race and rode home with a second place position, extending his chances in the points battle as well.

Moose Racing / BigDawg Racing / Hoosier’s Aaron Medlin had an awesome weekend of racing in Ohio. Capitalizing on a great start and quick passes, Medlin secured his first-ever Pro podium with a third place finish!

Medlin came off the line with a fifth place start coming into the first big jump of the course just behind Tru-Way Racing’s Tiffer Bures who was in fourth place. Medlin fought hard and was able to make the pass on Bures and then set his sights on Ryckman who was slowly slipping back in the pack. Medlin was able to make the pass on Ryckman and then ride his race out to the finish line, solidifying his first time on the Pro podium with a third place finish and staking his claim in the Pro class.
