Extreme Dirt Track
Round #7 - Links |
|
|
|
Greenville, TN -
The short track at I-81 Speedway for Round 6 was
the perfect fit for Michael Coburn as he went on
a season first win Pro Class and also secured the
Pro Lites Class win, which narrows the points gap
considerably between Colburn and Harold Goodman
for the Extreme Dirt Track Pro ATV Championship.
Despite the near perfect track conditions, some
of the racers thought the track was a bit short,
but being in the heart of NASCAR territory, just
25 miles from Bristol Motor Speedway, and in keeping
with NASCAR tradition, the I-81 Speedway track
is what is called a “short track”,
which made for some extremely fast lap times with
many Pros running around 25 second lap-times.
The fast paced race had every Pro carrying their
front wheel out of the turns, much to the delight
of the fans.

but it was also one of the best groomed

#708 Harold Goodman held the early lead
down the straight for the Pro Holeshot,
but a first turn mistake sent him back several
postion, which opened up the door for #038
Michael Coburn to grab the Holeshot |
For the Pro Main, there were 16 racers lined up
two rows deep on the starting grid for the start
of the race, and it was Michael Coburn and Harold
Goodman running side by side off the start heading
into the first turn, with Brad Riley, Ryan Partee,
and first time Pro racer, Kendall Webb close behind.
It looked as if Goodman would get the holeshot,
which would be a big benefit on the somewhat narrow
track, but Harold went high into the first turn
and ended up getting stuck in the loose dirt, which
cost him several positions and allowed Coburn to
take the holeshot and the lead. “Harold and
I were neck and neck going into it, but I took the
inside line and Harold went wide. He ended up getting
stuck in the first turn, so I was able to holeshot
and lead for the whole race,” said Coburn.

#038
Michael Coburn was able to hold off the
hard charging Pro rookie, Kendall Webb,
and secure a season first Win with Webb
securing an impressive Podium finish in
his debut in the Pro Class, which also broke
the Honda Podium sweep with a Yamaha finally
scoring a Podium finish |
#25
Chuckie Creech was on the gas before a rear
flat time dropped him out of the running,
and #314 Kirby Cooke would have a season
worst finish 10th place in the Pro Class,
but he rebounded to a sesason best in the
Pro Lites Class with a 4th place finish |
Coburn ran pretty much unchallenged for the entire
race and put a good lead on Kendall Webb and Brad
Riley who were battling it out for second place
with Brandon Hill and Danny McGraw not far behind.
With limited opportunities for passing, the order
stayed basically the same for the entire race,
except for Goodman, who was trying to work back
up to the front.
