The 2008 Duro Extreme Dirt Track Series is just
past mid season and one thing is for sure, if there
happens to be a drought in your area, you need only
to schedule a National EDT to be guaranteed a nice
rain. Beginning with the first round in Arkansas
at Twin Creeks raceway the series has seen rain
at every event. Tornadoes ripped through an area
less than ten miles north of Twin Creeks on Friday
morning. While the track was spared the severe damage
received by its neighbors, it did receive high winds
and heavy rains throughout the morning.
|
Rain
has caused delays at every race this season
heading into Elizabeth City where storms
again were in the forecast
|
Brownstown, IL was originally scheduled to host
the second round, but with heavy rains early in
the week and more rain in the forecast for the
weekend, it was postponed until September 6th,
which will be the final round in the series for
the second year in a row. Rains also fell in Missouri,
Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, causing delays
at all the events. Regardless of the wet weather,
each of the promoters did an outstanding job of
getting the tracks ready for the racers, and completed
all of the scheduled races despite the rain.
Each of the classes for 2008 have some new faces
as many of the riders have moved up and new riders
have come on board. Justin Lawson of Fuquay Varina,
NC and Justin Loggins of Marshall, AR are both
leading in the amateur ranks as Lawson has four
victories on the season and leads the Production
A class, while Loggins has notched four wins and
leads the Production B and 4-Stroke B classes.

As the Extreme
Dirt Track series gains new racers, some
familiar faces decide its time to park
the ATV. #33 Ken Marcou has been a dominate
force in Extreme Dirt Track Racing for
years, and after another dominate weekend
at Pine Lake winning the 25+ & 40+
class along with a 2nd place finish behind
Tim Farr in the 30+, Pine Lake's race
weekend may be Ken's last unless he pulls
a Brett Favre on us and decides to mount
up again at a future event. Just a few
years shy of 60, Ken announced he planned
on retiring from racing, and he will surely
be missed by nearly everyone at the races
|
In the A classes we have seen eight different
riders take the checkered flag to this point in
the season. Avon Park, FL rider Casey Mckibben
leads the 4-Stroke A class and has multiple victories
this season after moving up from the B ranks in
2007, while Jeffrey Cunningham leads the 265A
class even after missing the first round. Other
winners in the A classes have been Hunter Haswell,
Tyler Corriher, Michael Blanchard, Nathan Wolff
and Lonnie Eby. All of the A classes have several
riders close in the points race and the lead will
probably change hands in each of the classes more
than once before the series ends.

#8 Casey
McKibben took over the points lead by
1 point over Justin Lawson in the 4 Stroke
A Class by winning Pine Lake , but in
265A he lost his points lead to Jeffrey
Cunningham after a DNS
|
Michael Blanchard
returned to racing at Birch Creek after
a serious wreck in 2007, which sidelined
him over a year, but he is back to his
winning ways and moving up the points
chart in 16-24 & Prod A Class
|
The B classes have also seen multiple winners
this season with Michael Daigh and Justin Frindt
hot on the heals of Justin Loggins after wins
in rounds two and three for Daigh and Frindt winning
round five in Ashtabula in Production B. Brooks
Williams has a slim lead in the 265B class over
2007 C class champion Marc Jacobs.
|
|
#6 Justin
Frindt & #13 Marc Jacobs battling
for position in the B Class, and Jacobs
is currently leading the 265B Class
|
Justin Loggins
has taken wins in all three B Classes
(265B, 4 Stk B, Prod B) and was leading
the points in 4 Stk B & Prod B after
Pine Lake by a thin margin
