Guthrie, OK (10/7/2007) - This
weekend, KTM’s Tim Farr and Arctic Cat’s
Jesse West both claimed championships at the first
ever Maxxis ATV Endurocross at Guthrie, Oklahoma’s
Lazy-E Arena. The indoor track was filled with
obstacles and hazards that challenged even the
best riders and sent several racers back to the
pits with broken machines.

The riders had to negotiate through tight turns,
big logs, a water obstacle, a big rock section
and a culvert. The water pit was set up right
before the big rock section, which caused the
rocks to become incredibly slick and made it
difficult to get enough traction to get across
instead of slipping and winding up stuck.
Ground clearance was another major factor in
being able to clear some of the obstacles, which
Tim Farr was prepared for. “I knew I needed
to have some big tires for this kind of race,
so right before we were ready to leave I threw
a set of 22” tires in the trailer. No
one hardly ever runs them, but they worked out
really good this weekend. Tire height and ground
clearance was really important and those tires
definitely paid off this weekend!” Said
Farr. Farr’s set up certainly played a
big part in his victory as he took the holeshot
and eventually put a ten second lead on everyone
else. Farr, along with Brandon Brown and the
Miller brothers, Hunter and Cody, had some of
the fastest lap times recorded in the Sport
Expert class.

At the starting gate, Farr got first pick for
gate position and chose an inside line that
allowed him to get the holeshot and left the
rest of the pack behind. While Tim was checking
out, a battle began to brew between Brandon
Brown and the Miller brothers, which ended up
with Brown and Hunter Miller getting tangled.
“Cody was on one side of me and Hunter
was on the other and I started getting pinched
and I felt my back tires being raised up. Hunter
and I got hooked up and everyone was around
the second corner by the time we got our bikes
pulled apart. Fortunately, my Rekluse clutch
kept my bike running and I got going and worked
my way through.” Explained Brown. Rekluse,
one of Brown’s major sponsors, made it
possible for him to attend the Endurocross event.
“After the WORCS race in Monticello, UT,
they offered to carry my quad out here for this
event. If it wasn’t for them I would be
home in Oregon getting ready for the next WORCS
race at Pismo instead.” Brown said thankfully.

Brandon Brown and Hunter Miller both made hard
charges and worked their way up to second and
third place through the slick rocks. Miller
was closing the gap on Brown, but with only
an seven-lap moto, there was not enough time
to for him to get close enough to try for a
pass. Farr went on to take claim the number
one spot on the podium with Brandon Brown in
second and Hunter Miller in third. Shawn Hess
took a respectable fourth place and Bobby Duck
rounded out the top 5 for the Sport Expert class.
