Busco Beach Winterfest - ATV & SxS Race Report
ATV & SxS TT / Short Course & XC Racing
Goldsboro, NC (3/6/2015) - Extreme
Promotions set out to offer a new event and they
aptly named it “Winterfest”. The North
Carolina venue decided it would lend the winter
to the namesake as cold air poured into the region
making the event quite a bit colder than what
the promoters had in mind. It did not seem to
matter to the racers who trekked from all over
the east coast to get their share of a guaranteed
$4500 purse!
Busco Beach Offroad park would set the scene for this inaugural event that is expected to gain traction and become an annual event to offer everyone a chance of a winter free break while enjoying the southern temperatures and some serious action in an attempt to leave with a pocket full of cash! We know Mother-Nature hasn’t played nice so everyone embraced the suck as 30 degree temps driven by a brisk wind had everyone bundled up and trying to remain warm! The smiles before, during and after each race showed the competitors were not going to be denied the fun such an event offers.

The weekend would kick off Friday night with a TT/Short course event for ATV’s and SxS’s. The snow missed the area but plenty of rain had fallen forcing some serious work to be done to get the track ready to run. After several hours the crew had done their jobs admirably and practice started on time and on a track ready for them to race. When the night ended, winners were crowned and paid! Thats right, a payout that exceeded some national events was handed over to those who jumped at the chance to go after that cash! The action was intense during the SxS race which featured some highly contested races and plenty of action to keep everyone’s attention!

On Saturday, the event shuffled across the road where a XC course was laid out and would feature a few mud holes that really challenged novice riders as well as sucker punched a few of those who race on a regular basis. With the sand of the area ready to rob horsepower mixed with mud and water, this would be no easy course to tackle and with good money on the line, it could be anyone taking the win!

The XC races ran from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the class and seemed to make things manageable for the novice racers. The money classes put some stress on things as everyone wanted to push hard and earn the win. The last lap of the SxS race saw several front runners high centered in the deep sand which took them out of contention for the win. Hey, that’s racing and it isn’t over until its over!

The overall event seemed to be a great success and now has something to build on. Whenever a new event is undertaken there is bound to be an issue here or there but the staff seemed to get everything sorted out and are looking forward to making things even better for the next Winterfest event. The two days of racing would be capped off with a bonfire and BBQ that really added to a family atmosphere as fans, racers and staff all chowed down and shared stories from the days event. Winterfest may be in its infancy but is bound to become a huge entry-drawing event if they keep the payouts high and the southern charm flowing!
