Best in the Desert Vegas to
Reno - ATV Race Report
::Continued::
The Q83 team got off to a rough start when Brinkerhoff
crashed 30 miles into the event and broke his
collarbone, which left Cody Mitchell to Ironman
the remaining 500+ miles of the race, but he didn’t
give up and rounded out the top five.

Cody Mitchell ran nearly the entire BITD
Vegas to Reno solo after his teammate, Colt
Brinkeroff, broke his collarbone |
The Q1 team, who led for much of the early stages
of the race, was happy to finish after Prather’s
crash, though their sixth-place effort effectively
took away any chances at the championship.

CEET's
Danny Prather started the race for the Q1
team with a brand new Honda |
“We had a great race going all day, but I was
charging after losing the lead in the pits and
charged a little too hard,” said Prather. “I hit
a wash that threw the bike sideways. When it landed,
it threw me off and I ended up shattering my wrist,
I broke a rib, bruised my hip and sustained a
concussion. I’m glad it wasn't worse, and I'm
so thankful to be home with my family. I’m so
bummed! We worked so hard coming into this race
to go for a win. I can't thank everyone involved
and our sponsors enough for all their support!
We gave it our best shot.”

Racing's David Scott ran the final leg
of the race solo after Prather's wreck
to secure a 6th place finish for the team
|
The team scrambled to fix the quad and Scott
nursed it home to sixth. “I just didn’t want to
do anything stupid. I just wanted to finish the
race,” said Scott. “So we did finish, but this
really ruined our hopes of winning a championship.”
The No. 474 team of Paul Marcotte and Kane Fraser
won the Quad A. The two Canadian riders were keen
to help other riders during the race.

Polaris Scrambler |
“The interesting part of the race was around
mile 284,” said Marcotte. “I was towing a quad
into the pits when we came across a motorcycle
rider that had wiped out. A chopper came down,
checked him out and I rode him into the pits.
We had a quad in tow and a motorcycle rider on
the bike for 20 miles. This was our first time
here and we had a lot of fun.”
Carlos Valencia won the Quad Ironman Class for
solo riders. “My pit crew did a great job,” said
Valencia. “They kept me hydrated and got me food.
I was losing circulation in my knees. By mile
350 I still felt strong. After mile 490, the track
got very rough and I had a lot of close calls.
I bent a rim and had a flat. That’s when my tire
blocks kicked in. I also lost my skid plate. Those
ruts were pretty deep.”
