When asked about the new class, Martinez said "this will be a great place for new people to start in the sport and a great place for companies with smaller cars to compete." On a five race finishing streak, Scott is looking forward to the remainder of the season.

Matt Krimple has won three races in a row going back to last season |
In the UTV SR1 Class, Matt Krimple of Alpine, CA drove his #1971 John Deere Gator machine to the top of the podium. Taking the season opener win with his son-in-law as co-pilot, Krimple was enthusiastic as he made his way to the podium after a grueling race with a time of 4:11:43.
"It's an interesting race track with an eighty mile loop. The first half is fairly fast, and the back half is wickedly brutal with rocks and you name it. Going back to the 2013 season, this win makes the third win in a row. No issues whatsoever. We ran the whole day first in our class," said Krimple about his impressive race.
Taking the second for the day was Brad Griego of Scottsdale, AZ. With a great drive, he raced his #1980 Yamaha to the middle position on the box. Rounding out the podium was Jeff Kary driving his #1979 Yamaha.
The sportsman class had two entries at the Parker 250. Although one of the smallest classes, the drivers had to endure the same rugged obstacles as everybody else and still battle for the win. At the checkers, it was the 1999 of Kyle Burkhardt of Cody, Wyoming taking the win in his Arctic Cat Wildcat machine. Following in second was the #1985 Polaris car driven by Joshua Minor of Winchester, CA.
With Round One of the 2014 Best in the Desert Series in the books, the racers will now begin to prepare for the Mint 400 in March, which is one of the biggest races of the year.
