Wayne
Matlock & Harold Goodman
|
Meanwhile the Matlock/Goodman team was holding
on to third until the Q1 team ran into mechanical
issues and allowed the Q3 team to take over second
place. Q3 was running about 5 minutes behind the
Granlund/Stewart team and gaining ground when
disaster struck. “Harold was about 1.5 miles
from the finish line when the timing chain broke,”
said Wayne Matlock. “I got towed part of
the way and then I ended up having to push it
the rest of the way across the finish line,”
added Goodman, whose team ended up finishing in
5th despite their last minute break down.

Matlock (left) & Harold Goodman (right)
plan to race both the BITD Series &
SCORE Series in 2009, and Goodman also will
be racing the AMA Pro ATV Motocross Nationals
along with the Extreme Dirt Track Series
|
The Q1 team consisting of last year’s champions
David Scott and Jeremy Sanchez of Christy Racing
were not as fortunate as Matlock and Goodman.
At the end of the second lap, Sanchez and Scott
ran into mechanical issues and were forced to
DNF, which could have a serious impact on their
chances of defending their Pro Quad championship
for 2009.

Jagged
X's Polaris RZR Wins
|
In the Pro UTV class, it was the Jagged X team
aboard their Polaris RZR who had an outstanding
run. The team, consisting of Brandon Schueler,
Justin Schueler, Chad Riccio and Mike West flew
off the starting line and never looked back taking
the win and finishing over 5 minutes ahead of
the second place Pro-Armor Kawasaki Teryx team
of Michael Lasher, Tim Orchard, Rick Wallace and
Dave Elbert, who also had a great run. Bi Polar
Racing’s Jim Creagan and Tabor Cresap held
down the number three position in their Arctic
Cat Prowler.

With a short series, such as the BITD, being
able to finish every race in the series is crucial
to the teams who are fighting for championships.
However, as with any endurance race, things can
happen out on the course that can either devastate
a team’s chance for a championship or level
the playing field for others.
The next round of the BITD will be back in Parker,
AZ with the Bluewater Gran Prix, and it will be
interesting to see if this rounds winners can
hold their positions, or if the desert gets the
best of them.
