ATVCC Round 2
Continues At Barnell Mountain Despite Rain
::Continued::
Randy Fox and Daniel Riley dominated the Open
Amateur class for first and second while Bobby
McLaughlin and Berry Lucas battled fiercely for
third and fourth. Looks like Fox and Riley were
running lap times worthy of the Intermediate class.
We will have to see if they will able to continue
this level of riding the rest of the year. Local
rider from Gilmer is able to pull off a well deserved
victory in the Junior class. Marshall Jeffries
has been practicing hard all summer long and his
diligents has paid off with a sweet victory at
his hometown track. Logan James had the early
lead in the race but on lap 2 Jeffries was able
to take over the lead and keep it to the finish
line. At the end of the second lap James was only
7 seconds behind Jeffries but on the 3rd lap Jeffries
pulled out a lead by 1:51 and by the end of the
race the margin was 3:07. James held on to second,
Nathan Swift finished third and Josh Miller fourth.

The
Masters Class |
Justin Underwood continues to show his dominance in
the 35+ class. Off the starting line in the lead
Underwood just motored away with the victory without
a challenge from anyone in his class. Dan Greene
and John Scott both retired after the first lap
and Matt Horton finished second followed James West
in third. The 45+ class probably provided the most
excitement of the day. I’m not sure but I
think Dennis Wilson got off the line first at the
start but by the end of the first lap Ron Swift
had moved into the lead followed by Mike Nichols,
Dennis Wilson, Mike Yount, and Dewey Miller. And
let me tell you all of these riders were bumper
to bumper coming through scoring. Lap 2 would find
Yount in the lead followed by Nichols, Wilson, Swift,
and Miller. Again, all these guys were bumper to
bumper through scoring. At the end of a long straight
Yount realized he couldn’t stop in time for
the corner and had point the machine into a thicket
of small pines to gettr’ shut down. He handed
over the lead at this point but was able to move
back into the lead by the end of the lap. At the
end of the third lap the top four riders were still
within second of each other but on the final lap
Yount pulled away when Nichols got sideways in the
track and provide a road block for the rest of the
class. Wilson used some savvy and made a new trail
through the trees to take over second and Nichols
finally got un-stuck for third and Swift limped
in with a flat tire for fourth. Man these old guys
sure know how to put on a show. Thanks!!!! Paul
Bennett exposed the new Polaris to the mud and was
rewarded with a victory over David Dillard, and
Mike Sims in the Ute class.

Keristie Miller
and Cindy Underwood
|
In the C Program Sarah Sellers walked away with an
easy victory in the Ladies Open class and Cindy
Underwood took home second place. Keristie Miller
finished third but the last lap was a real challenge.
Mike Nichols took the victory in the Masters class
followed by Dennis Wilson, Sonny Amos, and Bill
Lesueur. And Caleb Hamm won the Youth class. In
the Pee Wee Progam James King won the 7 Under class,
Kennedi Oxner won the 10 under class and Gage Smith
won the 12 under class. In the 10 under class Adam
Miller and Cameron Trimble race bumper to bumper
for the entire race with Miller finishing just one
second in front of Trimble. Nick Birmingham was
having some machine problems and was well off the
pace but still finished fourth. Nathan Clague showed
up to race with Gage Smith and really gave him a
run for his money but was unable to find room for
a pass and Smith edged him out by only 1 second.
