Pigeon Forge, TN – By popular request,
the 2007 ATVA Motocross Banquet returned to the
Grand Hotel & Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee,
and over 500 people made the trip to the Great Smoky
Mountains for the awards ceremony.
As usual, the banquet doors opened at 5PM and
immediately following diner, the awards ceremony
began at 6:30PM and lasted till nearly Midnight,
which was longer than anticipated, but every single
rider in attendance in the top ten had an opportunity
to be recognized on stage and thank their sponsors.
Also, throughout the evening, special awards were
presented to the top riders, crew, and sponsors,
which were voted on by the racers when they registered
for the event.

There
was an abundance of Contingency prizes given
out at the event to the top five finishers
in each class

All
top ten finishers also received a large
marble base trophy cup |
There was an abundance of contingency prizes
for the top class finishers, which included tires,
personalized championship jackets, fleece pullovers,
t-shirts, and DVDs along with numerous other contingency
prizes for the top five finishers. Also, one top
ten finisher in each class was randomly awarded
a One Year ATVA Membership card, which had many
parents smiling.
The big winner of the evening was Open C / Senior
40+ Racer, Richard Kyer, who took home the Weekend
Warrior Trailer. At over 60 years old, it was rumored
that Kyer was planning on retiring from racing,
but with his new race trailer, I suspect Kyer will
be back in action again for 2008 if he can convince
his wife.
The AMA Pro ATV Racers were also invited to the
banquet even though the Pro ATV Banquet will be
held in Las Vegas, NV the following weekend. The
Pro ATV National Champion, Joe Byrd, showed up
to collect his Championship trophy and received
a $3,000 championship bonus check along. Jeremy
Lawson, Michael Brown, and Justin Bres were also
in attendance, and Jeremy Lawson was awarded Rider
of the Year.
Pro Am Class Champion, Clay Holmes received a
championship bonus check for $1,500, and ProAm
Women Class Champion, Angela Butler also received
a championship bonus check for $500, which was
a first for the Women’s Class.

There
were numerous activities available to keep
the young riders entertained through out
the awards ceremony |
Immediately following the awards ceremony, the
crowd was treated to the premiere of H-Bomb Films
“National Born Killers”, which documents
the 2006 ATV Motocross Racing season and what
it takes to be a pro caliber ATV motocross racer.
Even though it was past Midnight, amazingly a
large crowd gathered around the two big screens
to witness a bit of history.
Speaking of history, the 2007 season is now officially
over, and it is time take a four month break before
the 2008 season kicks off in March. For pros,
the opening round will be held at Glen Helen,
and the Amatuer season will begin at Mill Creek
in Pell City, AL on March 29th.
