Dustin Wimmer launching the big step-up
as he goes on to win his 5th straight Pro
Moto in 2008 |
Natalie’s crash allowed Suzuki’s Dustin
Wimmer to take over the lead, followed closely by
Doug Gust, Josh Upperman, and Josh Creamer with
Chad Wienen and Cody Miller closing the gap. Once
Wimmer took the lead, he continuously increased
the gap between him and 2nd place Gust, while Upperman,
and Creamer battled for 3rd with Wienen and Cody
Miller in 4th and 5th.
Sage Baker, who was 5th fastest in qualifiers,
had got a mid pack start and worked his way up
to 9th place only to encounter a flat and fall
back to a 14th place finish. Jason Dunkelburger,
who had an impressive top 5 finish just two weeks
prior in Alabama suffered from engine failure
on the first lap, putting him out of contention
for the first moto. Upperman also encountered
mechanical issues and was forced to drop back
with only three laps to go.

Miller broke into the top ten after an impressive
5th place finish in Moto One |
Canadian racers Greg Gee and Richard Pelchat
both ran into issues early in the race, which
sent them to the back of the pack. Gee suffered
a nasty crash when he was brake checked, and flipped
into the fence. Pelchat ran into issues early
in the race, but stayed on the lead lap and worked
his way back up to finish the moto in 15th . The
Yamaha of Canada mounted Jasmine Plante had a
strong showing the first moto and secured a 6th
place finish.

Suzuki's

the back of the pack to finish in the 4th
spot |
At the end of moto one, Dustin Wimmer took the
win followed by Doug Gust and Kawasaki’s
Josh Creamer. Chad Wienen claimed 4th and Cody
Miller rounded out the top 5.
The skies began to darken as the time for autograph
session approached. Just as racers were setup
for eager autograph seeking fans, Mother Nature
let loose with a heavy downpour that sent everyone
running for shelter and caused the track conditions
to instantly deteriorate before the start of second
Moto.
