AMA Pro ATV Motocross
- Round 5 - Ballance Moto-X - Race Report
::Continued::
“I had a great weekend. I had a great night
and I am really happy to take the win here. This
was really unique race for us and is one for the
history books and I am glad to put Can-Am on top
of the podium for it,” said Natalie.

|
Motoworks
/ Can-am's #13 held onto the lead for a
perfect 1-1 day for his first overall win
of the season, which moves Natalie to within
15 points of Wienen in the points lead as
the 2012 AMA ATV MX Series reach the half-way
point of the season |
Yamaha’s Chad Wienen got off to a good
start in moto one and was soon in second behind
John Natalie and pressured him early in the first
moto. Wienen was right on Natalie but came under
fire from Joel Hetrick and was forced to defend
his position, allowing Natalie to pull ahead by
a couple of seconds. Wienen tried to remount a
charge late in the moto, but was unsuccessful
and settle for a second place finish.

Yamaha's
#44 Chad Wienen found himself under pressure
in Moto One with #88 Joel Hetrick &
#20 Josh Upperman in chase
|
By the time moto two came around, the sun had
set and the track lights were on. Unfortunately,
this caused issues for Wienen as he was not able
to see too well. Instead of risking it, Wienen
decided to not jeopardize his points lead and
rode a smart race. Wienen was in third off the
start and held his position from start to finish
despite a late pass attempt by Josh Upperman.
Wienen’s 2-3 finishes were enough to give
him second overall and still hold a 15 point lead
over the competition.
“The lighting was a little bit difficult
for me, but it was a good race and I just went
out there and did the best I could and rode a
smart race. I have to give a big thanks to everyone;
all of my fans and my sponsors, my crew. I’m
really thankful to have that kind of support.”

Motoworks'
#88 Joel Hetrick challenged #44 Chad Wienen
for the 2nd spot early on in Moto One
& recorded the fastest laptime of
the Moto, but a mistake in lap 11 dropped
Hetrick back to the 4th spot, which is
where he stayed to the checkered flag

Can-Am's #88 Joel Hetrick went 4-2 for third
overall on the Podium |
Can-Am/Motoworks’ Joel Hetrick was looking
good as he charged his way past Josh Upperman
for third and mounted an attack on Chad Wienen
for the number two spot in the first moto. Hetrick
tried to pull away, but unfortunately for Hetrick,
Upperman fought back and Hetrick ended up making
a mistake that sent him back to fourth place,
where he would finish for moto one.
Moto two went much better for Hetrick as he was
in second off the start and held his position from
start to finish. Hetrick’s impressive performance
allowed him to take the final spot on the pro podium.
“I made a little mistake in the first moto
and fell back, but moto two went really good for
me and I’m glad to be on the podium,”
said Hetrick, who also took the fastest qualifier
award for the weekend.
