Dustin Wimmer Goes 1-1 at Muddy Creek for
his first Podium finish since his shoulder
injury in April |
Blountville,
TN (6/28/2009) –
Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Dustin Wimmer
went 1-1 this weekend at Muddy Creek to take his
first win since injuring his shoulder several weeks
ago while teammate Doug Gust joined him on the podium
in second place.
Wimmer was off to a mid pack start in the first
moto and charged his way to the front to take
over the lead in the final lap. In the second
moto things went even better for Wimmer as a better
start gave him the edge he needed to take the
lead quickly and hold his position all the way
to the checkered flag. “It feels really
great to be back on top of the podium. This is
a real confidence booster for me,” said
Wimmer, who is now back in contention for the
points championship. Wimmer claims he is still
not at 100%, but vows he will be by round nine,
where he is planning to take the top spot on the
podium once again.
“Digger” Doug Gust was on a mission
for another podium position this round as he came
off the line strong in both motos. The veteran
racer held his ground to take a respectable third
in moto one and climbed his way to the number
two spot in moto two. Gust’s strong finishes
earned him the number two spot overall. “I
just stayed focused out there and rode smart,”
said Gust, who is now in the top five of the points
race.
Kawasaki Monster energy’s Chad Wienen had
a couple of slow starts, but powered his way through
to take a 4-4 finish, giving him the final spot
on the podium and allowing him to hang on to the
points lead.
Jeremy Lawson was running strong in moto one
as he was in the lead for a good part of the first
moto, until Dustin Wimmer caught him in the last
lap. Lawson’s luck did not hold out for
moto two and ended his day with a mid pack finish.
Harold Goodman was looking good as he grabbed
the moto two holeshot, but he was unable to hold
on to the lead and fell back to a 6th place finish.
Honda’s Joe Byrd grabbed the holeshot in
moto one and had a strong start in the second
moto, but would fall back both times to mid pack.
Josh Creamer and John Natalie also seemed to
be having issues as both finished near the back
of the pack in moto one and Josh Creamer only
completing one lap in moto two.
A complete race report, results, and photos will
be coming soon!
