H-Bomb
Films "Huevos Eleven"
ATV DVD Product Review
I am going to admit this right from the start, I
haven’t been a huge fan of the Huevos series
since the #4 DVD release. It is purely a personal
thing as the actual film quality of the DVDs has
increased each year. Wes Millers creativity tends
to explode with each new release, however for me,
not one since Huevos 4 really made me want to hit
re-play the second it ended. In retrospect, I believe
it has to do with what you’re into in relation
to your niche in the sport. But lets be honest,
you can’t always make a film that appeals
to every single one of us and to that end, none
of the H-Bomb films has been bad or a waste of money.
Now it does suck to throw down $24 and not like
the product, but in the end, we don’t have
a lot of choices and on a rainy day, even a movie
you’re not a huge fan of can help keep your
mind off not riding!
So, what’s better then having to review
something you’re probably not going to like?
How about liking it.
It is immediately apparent that H-Bomb films
have picked up support from Polaris as their team
machines are none other then the venerable Polaris
Outlaw. I think this is one big drawback for me
as you kind of grow tired of seeing the same quad
in almost every scene. I think back to the early
Huevos films and I recall seeing a ton of 250
R’s so I either prefer the Honda or I am
just growing more picky in my old age. It really
doesn’t matter as the Outlaws get put through
their paces as the film progresses into its opening
segments and soon your watching the action and
not worrying about what they are on.

Huevos
11 contains some exciting freestyle sections,
which feature brothers Caleb & Colten
Moore, and ofcourse, Caleb pulls out some
impressive Back-Flips in the film |
One thing Wes Miller has going for him is a keen
sense of angles and he really nails some killer
footage. High, low, helmet and atv mounted cameras
all capture some insane action as Caleb and Colten
Moore lay it all on the line performing some intense
freestyle moves, and of course the infamous backflip
is included in many clips. The mix flows well
during the first few chapters and even the GNCC
boys get some more play this time around as round
1 of the GNCC series is captured along with a
romp through the West Virginia countryside with
Adam McGill and Taylor Kiser. The H-Bomb team
moved all over the country and across an ocean
or two as footage from the Point De Vaux endurance
race and some freestyle footage from Costa Rica
and Columbia bring another segment to a close.

For
those motocross fans, Huevos has plenty
of motocross track action with some of the
fastest ATV racers including the AMA Pro
ATV Motocross Champion, Dustin Wimmer, along
with Yamaha's Pat Brown & the Motoworks
Can-Am Team practicing |

As usual Wes Miller
captures some stunning aerial footage
with numerous scenes shot from the air,
which provides a very unique visual perspective
|
In the past, the slow motion got old, and fast! Not
this time around, although it is used a lot, it
is edited in a way that you don’t grow entirely
tired of. There is even some speeded up footage
that works well. The aerial footage captured by
helicopter will get you pumped to gear up and ask
Wes if you can do a few laps! I think the inclusion
of the low flying whirly-bird really adds to the
excitement as the chaos of the filming is really
captured. The dune scenes could easily be playing
in any Polaris dealership in the world as the grace
of an ATV in the sand is captured in all its glory,
and although if you’re not a Polaris fan,
look at it from the aspect of what it is, and that’s
a rider on the gas!

Wes Miller's own
mud bog party adds some humor to the film
with some recognizable industry people
participating in the fun
|
The Mud Nationals segment will have you reaching
for a pressure washer as these guys get down and
dirty 4x4 style at the largest ATV mud racing
event on the planet captured close enough that
I assume a few of the H-Bomb cameras needed a
good scrubbing! Late in the movie, we get to see
some of the general riding fun that made the first
few Huevos movies so great, just good riders doing
their thing for the camera. In fact, one of the
best scenes of the whole film occurs in a corner
where slow motion brings it all right into your
living room and anyone who has ever gone into
a tight, nerf banging corner will get up on the
couch as it unfolds! My personal favorite scene
is the last few seconds of the film and it involves
a back flip and a helmet cam, perfect lighting
and the best application of slow motion I have
ever seen in an ATV film!
So yeah, I liked it. It still isn’t H-3
but topping your favorite version in the series
can be hard to do! The music, well you just have
to go with it. It is a good mix of everything
and in this film they actually left in some of
the engine sounds which I wish they would do more
of or offer it as a feature. Racing, riding, freestyle
even some good 4x4 action and some things done
for fun. I really hope the fun atmosphere finds
its way back to the H-Bomb films. It is here in
this one, but just not enough of it.
