2009 Fly Racing ATV Riding Gear Review
::Continued::
The Youth boots is where we had our biggest problem
and they seemed to be far less sturdy then other
brands we have tried. Youth boots in general can
be far to stiff as well, causing issues with rider
comfort and control of the brake or shifter. For
a beginner rider, these would be a great boot
as their flexibility will allow a new rider to
transition to a boot with a stiffer construction
without being restrictive in movement. The buckle
on the Youth boots is on par with most other designs,
but again, could be made stronger. You shouldn’t
have any issues for a new or beginner rider especially
if they complain about their boots being to stiff
and lacking movement.

Our
Youth rider loved her gear, and the bright
color that really stands out! |
The gloves were very comfortable for both Youth
and Adult riders. The padding in the palms helped
a lot and the finger length was perfect for our
adult rider who has large hands. The leather placed
in areas that are prone to wear has held up well
and appears to be a very sturdy and well made
glove.
The chest protectors both received high praise
in the comfort and fit department. The adjustments
made getting them properly fit to our riders a
snap. They have held up great although the foam
is a bit tough to get clean after its been stained.
It doesn’t help that the soil we ride in
has a name, Breezewood brown! All in all, we are
very satisfied with these items. Even the Youth
unit got an A+ in fit and comfort and the adjustments
allowed us to keep up with a growing kid!

The
Fly Racing Kidney Belt was designed to keep
from walking up and down your back during
riding |
The Kidney belt we received for our adult rider
was highly commented on as it fit great and the
Velcro continues to hold as well today as it did
on the very first ride. The design works as it
does not walk up and down your back during riding,
something we can’t say about other brands
we have run. The same applied to the youth belt,
very comfortable and held its adjustment and position.
We chose the “Patrol” pants and Jersey
for both our adult and youth riders. Both sets
have held up extremely well to being cleaned with
no color fade. The material seems to release dirt
well and after several months of being hit with
a pressure washer and run through the good old
Maytag, is holding up extremely well. The adult
jersey is very comfortable and well ventilated.
The patrol pants feature the zip off legs and
can be removed or installed over your boots. The
zipper teeth are large and the pants feature cargo
pockets for small items you may need to haul around.
We felt the pockets in the rear were a bit small,
and the cargo pockets placed a bit low, but if
that’s all we have to complain about we
can live with it! Our rider commented that the
fact the pockets were there is a huge plus. The
inner leg section has a nice thick section that
helps keep the heat off the rider from the engine.
Opening up the vented areas also allows us to
get some flow going to cool off when the temps
rise.
