Zakowski Motorsports' ATV Racers Top 5 at General GNCC
GNCC ATV & SxS Racing - Round 2 - General GNCC - March 16, 2013

Zac Zakowski - Can-AM Outlander Utility ATV
#990 Zac Zakowski placed fifth in the GNCC 4x4 Open Class at the 2013 General GNCC Round 2

Menasha, WI (3/21/2013) - Zakowski Motorsports was back on the road this past weekend, headed to round number two of the 2013 Amsoil GNCC series, and round number one of UTV racing.  After a long off-season the 2013 ZMS Can-am Commander 1000 was ready to do battle on the track after special help from new sponsor, Turnkey UTV, outfitting the machine with all kinds of trick new parts for the season.

After a building season last year, the entire team was ready to do some work on and off the track to take the 2013 XC-1 UTV Modified championship.  ZMS driver Zac Zakowski is putting the machine into contention with the help of teammate and co-pilot Andrew Langston.

The day started a little rocky, when after hours of testing and tuning to perfection, the car experienced some running issues on the start line.  After struggling to start, the duo settles into a mid-pack start heading into the woods, not your typical Zakowski Motorsport style start.  When going through the woods the car started to experience power loss in the slower sections, but then would come back to life, clawing at the Georgia clay with the help of its Kenda tires.  Unfortunately, the ZMS car would come to a halt before the end of the first lap, stalling out on the track.  The crew would try to get the car re-fired but the race would be over for the number 990 car.

In the ATV side of things, Zakowski Motorsports was pleased to announce the addition of long time GNCC racer Andrew Langston to the roster for the 2013 season.  Andrew, who has been running 4x4 Open with Zac for years will be going after the 4x4 Lites championship this year under the ZMS tent.  Andrew would end his first race in the new class with a solid 2nd place and 10th overall, results that can only get better as he learns the tricks of the new bike.

Zac Zakowski was back on the dirt this weekend after sustaining a knee injury at one of the final rounds last season, resulting in two surgeries for reconstruction.  While only 4 months out of surgery and nowhere near riding capable, Zac mounted up in 4x4 Open to salvage some championship points.  After collecting yet another holeshot, Zac would settle into a comfortable yet safe pace, ending the day in 5th.

“I really had no business being on a quad this weekend but I just wanted to get back out here for my sponsors and have some fun.  My goals were to get the holeshot, keep my knee in one piece, and finish on the lead lap.   Luckily I was able to accomplish them all and it felt great!  I can’t wait to get out here and compete at 100% again.” Zakowski stated.

The next round is in three weeks in Morganton, NC, where Zac and Andrew will be gunning for their respective championships!  Zac hopes to be back to around 90% by then and getting closer to being back in the running.  ZMS will have another member to the roster for round 3 as well. Stay tuned!
