Lost Creek/Yoshimura/Suzuki Signs on Pro ATV Racer
Joe Haavisto
Chino, CA (3/6/2007) - Lost Creek Cycles
has signed Joe Haavisto to join Jason "Dunk"
Dunkelberger on the newly formed Lost Creek/Yoshimura/Suzuki
racing squad. The likeable Northeastern rider is ready
to rip in the new Lost Creek Cycles rig. Both riders will
campaign Suzuki LT-R450 racing quads equipped with full
Yoshimura engine modifications.
Back in the day, Kevin Mummah of Lost Creek Cycles
did what every passionate rider does. He loaded up the
pick-up truck with a couple of buddies and hit the local
ATV race scene. It was a natural. He'd wrench. They'd
race. They'd break it. He'd fix it.
Over the years, he assembled and dedicated his resources
to fielding a competitive Pro race team. In 2001 he
did just that by hooking up with Jason "Dunk"
Dunkelberger. Dunk's speed on the track and Kevin's
good business sense and passion for the sport brought
Dunk a 7th overall in the WPSA SuperQuad Pro Series
in '06 and the attention of American Suzuki and Yoshimura.
For 2007, the team will be the official ATV Suzuki Support
Team.
Mummah now finds himself with a new paint job and a
premium rig location next to the mother ship "Team
MSR/Pro Taper/Suzuki/Yoshimura". This is a far
cry from his early racing rigs. In fact, the team's
success can be measured in trailer size. Starting with
an open snowmobile trailer, the team rigs grew to a
20' enclosed, then 24', then a 38' gooseneck to finally
a palatial motor home. Well, maybe not quite that fancy
but more comfortable than that first pickup.
Now, in 2007 the bigger truck called out for a second
rider. So, Kevin promptly signed up Joe Haavisto as
the second pro rider. Joe is coming off of a good season
placing 8th in the ATVA GNC series. An injury sidelined
him and kept him from making 2006 a "great"
season.
"I'm really excited about hooking up with Dunk
and Kevin and riding the LT-R450," Joe remarked.
"The bikes are top-notch. We've been testing, trying
different combinations, and everything is pretty much
dialed in. We're ready to go race."
Rod Lopusnak of American Suzuki is also pumped about
the new relationship: "We're really excited to
be a team player with Team Lost Creek/Yoshimura/Suzuki.
This is a perfect example of how Suzuki is taking a
leadership role in ATV racing. In regard to Joe, he
totally impressed everyone last year; he showed a lot
of promise and ability and this year he's proving everyone
right and going really fast."
It's still all just sinking in for Kevin. "It's
amazing to be a part of the Suzuki racing efforts. Rod
bent over backwards for us. He's got the vision and
the drive to get things done. Suzuki takes racing very
seriously."
Dunk is fired up for the 2007 season as well. "It's
time to show everybody what I can do. And I plan on
doing that this year. Riding with guys like Doug Gust
was like playing basketball as a kid defending Michael
Jordon. This year I want to show what I learned from
them."
While both Joe and Dunk have completely different styles,
each has their own strengths. "I'm looking forward
to playing off each other," Dunk explained about
his new teammate.
Yoshimura's Brant Russell is equally excited about
the new team. "Yoshimura is 100% behind growing
the sport and supporting a talented team like Kevin's
demonstrates our level of commitment. Kevin also fields
a large and very impressive amateur team with some great
kids riding for him. We especially like being involved
helping this group move up."
KBC Helmets, MSR and Cernic's have also joined in the
growing list of Sponsors for 2007. This is the KBC's
debut sponsorship in the ATV racing world.
