Yamaha's Dustin Nelson Third in Quad X ATV Motocross
Dustin Nelson Third at Glen Helen Season Finale

San Bernardino, CA (11/12/2013) - Yamaha teammates Dustin Nelson and Josh Row finished third and fourth, respectively, in the season-ending Yamaha Quad-X ATV motocross event in San Bernardino, Calif. on Saturday, Nov. 9. Aboard his YFZ450R, Nelson battled hard to 3-3 moto finishes, with Row racing to 4-4 results against fierce competition at famed Glen Helen Raceway. The results give Nelson, a five-time Yamaha Quad-X series champion, third position in the points for the year, with teammate Row wrapping up the season in fourth.

Nelson started third behind rivals Davi Haagsma and Beau Baron in the first of two motos. Then while Haagsma escaped up front, Nelson and Baron engaged in a war of cornering lines, with Nelson fast on the outside berms and Baron vectoring toward the inside lines. The two strategies kept the pair in close contact, racing side-by-side at corner exit numerous times. The fight for second came down to the final corner on the final lap of the moto. Nelson held the
advantage entering the turn, but Baron used the inside line to his advantage, squaring Nelson off and taking the position. Nelson finished third with Row following in fourth.

In moto two, Nelson wheelied off the line aboard his YFZ, getting into the first turn just inside the top five. On a mission to finish the season strongly, he moved into third almost immediately, but gave away the position to teammate Row after making a small mistake. He and Row then waged one of their best battles of the season, riding side-by-side for several corners in a row. Eventually Nelson was able to get clear of his YFZ teammate and head in pursuit of Haagsma and Baron. And while he was able to match the leaders’ pace, he wasn’t able to close enough to attack, and Nelson and Row finishing an identical third and fourth in the second moto as well as final points standings. “The YFZ450R was amazingly durable this year,” Nelson commented. “We had no mechanical failures all year long, and this reliability really kept us in the hunt.”
