Chad Wienen won his seventh win of the season at Unadilla Motocross

New Berlin, NY (7/15/2013) - Aboard his YFZ450R, Chad Wienen scored his sixth consecutive overall win in the 2013 AMA Pro ATV championship at famed Unadilla MX in New Berlin, New York on Saturday, July 13. Wienen raced to 1-2 moto finishes to take the overall, drawing him closer to back-to-back championships in the AMA’s premier ATV motocross series. Meanwhile teammate Thomas Brown put together 5-4 motos to finish fourth – just missing his seventh overall podium this year. With eight of 10 events now completed, Wienen leads Brown in the standings by a comfortable 58-point margin.

Also on Saturday, clear across the country at Pala Raceway in Southern California, Yamaha teammates Thomas Brown and Dustin Nelson finished third and fifth, respectively, in the sixth round of the 2013 WORCS ATV off-road racing series.

Each of the two 11-lap AMA Pro ATV motos took around 23 minutes of all-out exertion – longer than a Supercross 450 main event. In the first moto, rival Josh Upperman took the holeshot with Wienen close behind. Wienen didn’t take long to get into the lead though, getting by Upperman on the first lap and then putting his Wienen Motorsports YFZ into the lead for good. For his part, Brown got a less than spectacular start inside the top 10, worked his way up to fourth on the next-to-last lap, and then slipped one position behind rival Josh Creamer on the last lap to take fifth at the flag.

“Unadilla’s a tough track on the rider and the machine, so I knew I had to get out front quickly and ride my own race,” Wienen said. “We had the bike set up perfectly and it really hooked up well on the fast track.”

When moto two started, this time it was Creamer who got the holeshot ahead of Wienen. However the Yamaha rider knew that Creamer’s fourth-place finish in the first moto wouldn’t give him the overall win – even if he won the race. So Wienen circulated wisely in second for the entire race, keeping Creamer in sight but more importantly, avoiding mistakes and securing his amazing sixth straight AMA Pro ATV overall. Brown had a great moto as well, starting much better in fourth this time, where he likewise stayed for the entire moto.

“I’m so thankful for the season I’ve been having so far – it’s been a lot of hard work and dedication,” Wienen said. “Holding onto the red points-lead plate at the end of each race weekend is what keeps me motivated as the season winds down.”
