Kiser is focused on the National Championship
|
Snowshoe, WV (7/7/2009)
-For the ninth round of racing we headed to
Snowshoe West Virginia. I had been spending
my time in Kentucky with my good friend Bill
prior to this round. As with every round of
racing, I worked day in and day out to prep
for this event. This round of racing would,
mark history with a large Pro Purse win and
a 20 mile loop which the afternoon event would
compete on. Snowshoe is known for its rugged
conditions but I welcome these challenges and
was confident heading into this round.
The most common question I was asked was whether
the pro purse was on my mind; and to be honest
it was but it was not the most important thing
to me heading to the line. There is a National
championship up for grabs and it is something
I have been working towards for a very long
time. Yes, the money would be nice but the points
were the main thing on my mind as I headed to
the line. I started on the front row of the
grand prix style start and head into the woods
towards the front of the pack.

I settled into my rhythm trying to remain smooth
and calm through the challenging terrain. At
the end of lap one I was comfortable in the
third place position and enjoyed the open track
we had to work with. The new section of the
track was great with some elevation changes,
technical terrain, and fast sections. The first
full lap took approximately 50 minutes so I
pitted for gas my first time through pro row.
The pit stop was flawless and I held onto third
as we made our way back out on to the course.
As the day wore on I found myself caught in
bottle neck after bottle neck which cost me
valuable time. However, I kept my composure
and started picking off riders which did not
last for long as I again would find myself caught
in more situations that cost me which in turn
equaled more time lost on the leaders. I rode
a strong race all day and did what I could to
get back to the front of the pack as soon as
I could but in the end I ran out of time. I
placed 9th for the day. I must say my Yamaha
performed the best it has all year which allows
me to enter the summer break full of confidence
that I will be back up front when we head to
Unadilla in September.
After this round of racing and placing ninth
I continue to hold second place in the XC1 points
standings.
I have a lot of
great sponsors and supporters that have a hand
in my success thus far and I cannot thank them
enough: Yamaha,
Houser, Ohlins, HMF, Maxxis, Mike Kiser Welding,
Raber Industries, T&K Cycles, HiPer, Moto
X Nutrition, Fly, Powermadd, Fasst, Ballance
Racing, Precision Racing, Rath Racing, GT Thunder,
DP Brakes, G4 graphics, Derek Tremain- ARS Powersports,
Baldwin Motorsports, Big Nutz Racing, Chester
Vet Clinic, Jason Lyons – Mona Vie, Spectro
Oils, Tire Balls, ATV Exposed, Albright Motorsports,
IMS and Eden Winery.
I am looking forward to the Summer Break but
will not alter my training in preparation for
the last four rounds of the 2009 season!
