Galena, IL (3/26/2014) - The first gate of the 2014 Mtn. Dew AMA ATV MX National Championship has finally dropped and the Wienen's Wienen Motorsports SSi Yamaha Maxxis Walsh team proved it once again would be a force to reckon with at the series opener this past weekend at Aonia Pass in Washington, Ga. Two-time consecutive Pro National Champion, Chad Wienen claimed the overall win with a 1-2 finish and Thomas Brown went 5-5 for a top five finish.

After claiming the fastest qualifier award in practice, Wienen was able to put himself in a good position and came out of the first turn in the top three. Wienen settled into third and made his way into second by halfway through moto 1. Putting a charge on the rider out front, Wienen was able to track him down and made a pass for the lead with four laps remaining and went on to be the first to take the checkers for the 2014 season. Brown came out of the first turn with a mid-pack start and had to put his head down to work his way through the field. Brown was able to find some passing opportunities through the moto and came across the finish line in fifth.

"Being at a track where the start is vital, I was disappointed with starting off in the middle of the field but I knew I had to put my head down and really go to work quickly to make my advances on the field. I am looking forward to Round 2 and pulling everything together to get to where I left off last season," said Brown.

When it came time for moto 2, Wienen was able to come out of the first turn in second and Brown was not far behind sitting in the fifth place position. Throughout moto 2 all of the top five riders stayed within a few seconds of each other, each rider holding their lines but unable to make any advances on the field. Wienen crossed the final checkers of round one in second and Brown followed behind finishing in fifth.

Thomas Brown

"I'm really happy to have claimed the overall this weekend and to leave round one holding the series points lead. The team has been putting in a lot of work and we can't thank our sponsors enough for all of the hard work and support all of them have put in over the off-season." Said Wienen.

Wienen Motorsports SSi Yamaha Maxxis Walsh Pro-Am rider, Nick Gennusa made his debut at Round 1 for the Wienen Motorsports team and came out of Round 1 with a seventh place overall finish after going 2-8. Gennusa came out of the first turn of Pro-Am moto 1 in second place and kept the rider out front honest as he crossed the checkers in second. As the gate dropped for moto 2, Gennusa didn't get off to a great start and came out of the first turn in the back of the field. Putting all the hard work he did this off season on the field, Gennusa was able to make his way up to the eighth place position before the end of the moto showing a lot of heart and unwillingness to quit.

The 2014 Mtn. Dew ATV MX Pro National Championship heads to Muddy Creek MX in Blountville, TN Saturday April 5th for Round Two.
