Dalton Millican |
Decatur, MI (5/30/2007) –
Dalton Millican didn't take long to visit the ATVA
winner's podium. In fact, it only took the rookie
rider three races to collect his first championship
trophy.
The son of Top Fuel driver and six-time IHRA champion
Clay Millican and his wife Donna took a page from
his dad's IHRA success. He merely took the lead
early on both his motos and never surrendered the
lead to win Sunday's Blue Grass Nationals ATVA (All-Terrain
Vehicle Association) event at Bowling Green, Ky.
Dalton did it in countdown fashion. He finished
third and second in his first two races before going
all the way.
.
"I was absolutely tickled about him winning
his first national event in just his third race,'
said Clay. He ran real well. He got a hole-shot
and ledthe race from wire to wire in his first moto
on Saturday. That put him in a good position for
Sunday's race. He got another hole-shot start and
led from the rest of the way. His last lap was faster
than the first three, so I guess all the exercise
he's doing is paying off.'
The race weekend, however, did not get off to a
promising start. Dalton crashed on Friday, seriously
damaging his bike. "We didn't see it because
Donna and I didn't get there until Saturday,' said
Millican. "It bent the grab bar at the back
of the bike, broke off the controls, clutch lever
and brake lever.
"He flipped it pretty good,' Millican continued.
"The bike went end over end a couple of times.
The people at Lonestar should be proud of how tough
everything is. We were nervous about him becoming
a little timid when it came time to go out again,
but Dalton went right back out there and ran really
well. He seems to be getting comfortable on the
new Lonestar Racing bike.

Talking on the Podium |
Keith Parker, Dalton's teammate on Evan Knoll's
Knoll-Gas Motorsports/Lonestar Racing team, obviously
did an excellent repair job on the vehicle. But
Parker couldn't avoid tumbling, too. He crashed
on his first oto in the
30-plus BC Class but rebounded to second place in
his final moto, putting him fourth overall.
"Evan and Dalton seem to have a pretty darn
good race bike,' said Millican. "Now daddy's
just sitting back being the nervous father and having
a blast.'
