Rider Paul Smith aboard a Suzuki LT-R450 |
Australia - (10/18/06) -This weekend
saw the final round of the Yamaha Victorian ATV MX Super
Series 8 and the crowning of a new Victorian Champion.
With Pro Suzuki rider Paul Smith 28 points clear of Yamaha’s
Adam Siemensma after round 7 this last round called for
Smiths years of race experience to show though he made
the decision to take it easy on the track rather than
push hard for the round in and garuntee himself the title.
Out of the gates first in Moto 1 Smith took the holeshot
and lead for the first lap but, hard charging Luke Beechey
(Yamaha Australia) only just home from the USA came
through from 3rd on the opener to take the lead from
Smith on lap 2. Smith, conserving himself, sat in 2nd
place until the end of the last lap when he was caught
by Siemensma and conceded 2nd.
Moto 2 was looking like a repeat of the first with
Smith holeshotting and again leading for the first lap
but Beechey had a better start than previously and took
the lead as they came around for the second. Smith gave
chase for half a lap before turning himself around trying
to make an inside move on last years #1 rider. Passed
by Siemensma and Dellios whilst recovering Smith regained
3rd place but fell into the clutches of Tassie rider
Jy Stokes in the closing stages and settled for 4th

Smiths LTR was first out of the gates again in the
final moto but was quickly overtaken by Beechey who
ran away with a huge lead by mid race distance, Siemensma
came through not long after and once again Smith settled
for third.
Third overall for the day was enough to clinch the
title for the Suzuki rider, with Smith taking out the
series by 20 points over Adam Siemensma and third overall
going to Jy Stokes.
“I would really like to thank my sponsors for
their support this year” said Smith. “Especially
my mechanic Pete from Southern Quads, this championship
belongs to him as much as me”
Smith also had the perfect season in the Production
Class on his 2nd LTR not losing a race all year only
getting a late season challenge from Pro Rider’s
Shaun Barry and Brett Clissold both on LTR 450’s
themselves.
