Dustin Wimmer Wins 2nd Straight AMA
Pro ATV MX Championship |
Brea, CA (8/17//2009) - Rockstar
Makita Suzuki Racing celebrated the end of the
2009 AMA ATV Motocross season with
championship-winning style at the Loretta Lynn
Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, on Sunday
afternoon. The series’ final round saw
Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Dustin Wimmer
capture his second consecutive AMA ATV Motocross
Championship after picking up fourth- and fifth-place
moto finishes for an overall result of fourth
place. This season, Wimmer raced his Rockstar
Makita Suzuki QuadRacer R450 to an impressive
six overall victories and led the points chase
for most of the year. This feat is even more
impressive, considering that Wimmer was injured
mid-season and had to sit out a round. With
Wimmer’s injury, Rockstar Makita Suzuki
teammate Doug Gust picked up the proverbial
slack. The veteran rider brought home four podium
finishes aboard his Rockstar Makita Suzuki QuadRacer
R450 and wound up in fourth place in the overall
championship points standings. At the series’
last round at Loretta Lynn’s,Gust walked
away with seventh- and sixth-place moto finishes
for an overall result of fifth place.
Dustin Wimmer:
“Everything went great out there. My
Rockstar Makita Suzuki QuadRacer R450 was
running perfect. It feels great to come back
from injury and still be able to win the championship.
After the struggles I’ve had this year,
it makes winning the championship even better.
I went out there and rode smart. I knew I
only needed five points so I played it safe
and it paid off. I had so much adrenaline
going for the first moto, but after that was
over, I was able to relax a bit. I’ve
had a lot of ups and downs this season, so
I am really happy to be able to give Suzuki
another championship.”
Doug Gust:
“My Rockstar Makita Suzuki worked flawlessly
this weekend as usual. It was hot and humid
at Loretta’s and the heat kind of got
to me. It was good to see Suzuki take another
championship. “I’ll be doing a
lot of training over the off season because
I want to go out there and be on the podium
again next year.”
