Primm, NV (9/26/2007) - Southern
Nevada Supermoto hosted the Stateline Supermoto-Cross
event at Buffalo Bills Resort & Casino in
Primm, NV over the passed weekend. While the weather
tried to put a damper on the program, event organizer/promoter
Marche Karger and his staff would not accept defeat
by Mother Nature. "We worked for a week straight
to prepare an epic track for the riders, and then
the rain came. We basically rebuilt the dirt section
of the track both Friday and Saturday mornings
of the event and still managed to pull off the
programs for each day. I have the best crew on
the planet working with me!!" stated Marche
Karger.
Once the weather issues were put to rest, the
racing action really heated up. There were 315
riders and over 550 entries for this hybrid
supermoto and motocross event. The racing action
was very intense in the supermoto, quad, and
rhino classes with several lead changes taking
place in the ultra wide dirt section. There
were several passes made under braking in the
asphalt portion of the race course as well.
H-Bomb Films' "Bomb Squad" and Jimmy
Fitzpatrick of the Metal Mulisha put on an incredible
intermission show on Saturday afternoon and
stunned the crowd with an amazing demonstration.
The crowd went wild as the freestyle demo culminated
with an amazing bike and quad train that back
flipped the 70 foot gap one after the other
with only a few feet between them.

Steve
Drew |
The Pro Supermoto class saw some incredible
racing action with Steve Drew going down in
the first lap of his heat race and charging
all the way back up to second to secure a front
row start for the main. Drew powered himself
to the front of the pack at the beginning of
the main, and never looked back. The one surprise
on the podium was Derrick Costella from Las
Vegas who showed up on a borrowed 2003 CRF 450
to ride supermoto for his first time ever. Costella
was incredible in the dirt section, and really
seemed to be hauling the mail on the asphalt
as well. After the race he said "I had
so much fun, I definitely want to ride supermoto
in the future!" The top six riders in the
Pro Supermoto class collected the purse money:
1st - Steve Drew, 2nd- Derrick Costella,
3rd- Travis Marks, 4th- Danny Casey, 5th-Gary
Trachy, 6th-Justin Ross
The Pro Quad Supermoto class certainly didn't
disappoint any of the fans that showed up to
see the best quad supermoto racers in the country
do battle. Everybody had their eyes on the top
three favorites from the spring Stateline Supermoto
Challenge event; Nic Granlund, Daryl Rath, and
Frank Batista. Nic Granlund of Las Vegas, NV
had won the last two Stateline events while
Daryl Rath of Minnesota was left to play the
brides made. Both riders wanted the win badly,
and did some precursory battle in the Vet 25+
class to get their machines set up for the Pro
race. Rath ended up on top in the Vet class
with Granlund right on his tail. The Pro class
looked as though it was going to be an absolute
barn burner. During the heat race for the Pro
class, Granlund handicapped his chances for
a 3rd Stateline victory by crashing out of the
heat race, leaving him to start from the back
of the pack for the main. Rath won his heat
race easily and was on the front row for the
main aboard his Polaris Outlaw 525.

Rath jumped out to a commanding lead at the
beginning of the 12 lap main event, and never
looked back. He rode at a fast and calculated
pace, but didn't take any chance of throwing
it away. Nic Granlund made an incredible charge
from 19th all the way up through the pack and
only passed Frank Batista with a lap to go before
working his way up to 2nd by the time the checkered
flag flew. Both racers said that they plan to
be back to do battle again in April of 2008
at the Stateline Supermoto Challenge. The top
5 that collected the Duro Tire purse were;
1st-Daryl Rath, 2nd-Nic Granlund, 3rd-
Frank Batista, 4th-Dennis Capogni, 5th-Kenny
Pacheco.
The Side X Side class proved to be entertaining
as always. Dana Creech showed up in his new
Polaris Razor and won the heat race, but had
to leave before the main event. In the main,
the lead changed 3 times before the pack even
left the asphalt section. After the first couple
of laps, Corey Prescot worked his way into the
lead while Cody Mitchell and Danielle Corbin
did battle for 2nd and 3rd. The podium was as
follows: 1st-Corey Prescot, 2nd-Cody Mitchell,
3rd- Danielle Corbin.
Jagermeister Music presented Smile Empty Soul,
Evolocity, and Durress for the crowds entertainment
after the racing was completed on Friday and
Saturday nights. The racers and spectators stuck
around to rock out and have some fun in the
desert.
