Richard Pelchat |
Boswell, PA (9/19/2007) - Yamaha
motor Canada’s Richard Pelchat finished
his season in American soil on a good note by
rounding up the top 5 at the final race of the
2007 WPSA championship. Richard’s started
on a good note at the first round in Georgia where
he finished 6th but struggled the remaining of
the season where he finished around the top 10
which was not exactly where Richard wanted to
be. His goal was to battle with the best and he
did just that this last week-end.
Richard and mechanic Mathieu worked extremely
hard during the weeks prior to the event, putting
all the little detail they have learned through
the year on a brand new YFZ 450. They worked
in close collaboration with Dan at DASA and
were able to find all the power they could get
from the YFZ power plant. ITP also came up with
a new version of the Quad Cross tires for the
last race and the tire was perfect for Richard.
“…the harder you rode on them the
better they perform…I love how hard you
can get on throttle out of corner and really
charge the track...’’.
Richard qualified his Yamaha YFZ 450 Groupe
Verdure – RP Evolution in 3rd place on
Saturday morning heat race and in 2nd position
on Saturday afternoon heat race which gave him
the 5th gate selection for the main event on
Sunday.
In the main event, Richard quickly recovered
from a poor start to be in 8th place after the
first lap. Richard made his way around Rocco
Arno and Joe Haavisto early in the race. Now
in 6th place, Richard was now after Pat Brown
and a top 5. A couple of laps later, Richard
was able to make a pass on Brown and was now
in 5th place. Riding confident, Richard recorded
consistent lap time and crossed the finished
line for his first top 5.
Here is what Richard had to say after the main
event: “I’m so happy with about
the way I rode this weekend, finally I feel
I have race like I can. I feel I have find my
groove again. Even though we were struggling
a bit this summer, I kept training, kept my
head up and never gave up…It is definitely
a reward this weekend.”
Richard is now getting ready for the Montreal
Supercross which will occur on September 29th.
Last year winner was Harold Goodman.
