St-Romuald, QC (7/3/2007) - We made
our way to the Virginia for another doubleheader of
the WPSA championship. We had a brand new YFZ
with a few more tips and tricks than my previous race
ATV. We had test a few new component and I felt I could
go a bit faster with these…new top a-arms and
special brake parts from France were among the list.
First thing I have to say, I learned a lot this past
weekend. The track was kind of a new style for
me. It was not the typical track. I had
a tough time with the long off-camber during Friday
and early Saturday. I felt like a true beginner.
I tried different setup and tons of different lines...and
finally I figured it out. On Sunday, I was even
passing a few guys there...
Friday qualifiers went terrible, with a crash and
an 8th place. Saturday qualifiers went better
with a 6th in both races. I was starting to feel better
toward the race track. I will put it this way…you
had to ‘’dance’’ with the
race track in order to be fast.
Round 6 final:
I got involved in the start tangle and then spun in
a corner. And found myself in dead last place!
I worked hard and by half race, I was in 11th place
and still charging...when I got a flat tire!
I managed to keep a somewhat good pace and hold a
few riders until the finish line. I finished 14th.
Round 7 final:
I started the race in 14th or 15th and climbed my
way up to 8th place. The dust was awful, you
could not see much out there in the first few laps.
We were the big stair-step leap with seeing much…
All in all, it was fun to be learning something new
again. I am in really good shape, I can charge
hard for the entire race. We will continue
to work on start; I will try a few chassis setup...
I need better start.
