AMA Supermoto Series Rolls Into
Fairgrounds
Music City Motorplex on October 14, 2006
Worlds
greatest all-around motorcycle racers test their
skills versus each other
in this new fangled form of motorcycle racing
dubbed Supermoto
Nashville, TN (10/3/2006)
- The worlds greatest all-around motorcycle
racers will converge upon Nashvilles Fairgrounds
Music City Motorplex next month (Oct. 14) for
the Xtreme Cycle Jam, Round Nine of the 2006
AMA Supermoto Championship, presented by Parts
Unlimited and Sloans Motorcycle & ATV Super
Center.
Supermoto, which was derived from the legendary ABC
Sports made-for-TV race series dubbed the Superbikers
back in the late 1970s, combines three of the most common
disciplines of motorcycle racing: road racing (pavement),
motocross (dirt with jumps) and flat track (compacted
dirt). The sport has become so popular in Europe that
the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) decided
to launch its own series and has met with great success
in its first three years of competition.
The State of Tennessee is a hotbed for all sorts of
competitive motorsports action and the Xtreme Cycle
Jam AMA Supermoto round at the Fairgrounds Music City
Motorplex has been has been enthusiastically accepted
by the area motorsports fans for the past two years,
said Joel Grover, Director of AMA Supermoto. In addition,
the uniqueness of supermoto has won over fans across
the nation both from motorcycle as well as auto racing
enthusiast backgrounds. Supermoto is motorcyclings version
of auto rally racing, only held in a venue where the
entire course is visible.
And with four pro main events, along with all of the
qualifying, the entertainment return on the family dollar
investment has kept our fans coming back.
Leading the AMA Supermoto Championship series thus
far is former motocross champion and Indy 500 podium
finisher Jeff Ward. Wardy heads a field of racers that
includes international greats such as 2005 AMA Supermoto
champion Jurgen Kunzel (Germany) and Troy Herfoss (Australia),
along with homegrown U.S.A. talent like AMA motocross
legend Doug Henry, the AMA Superbike Championship Bostrom
brothers (Ben & Eric) and AMA flat track great Glen
JR Schnabel.
The Xtreme Cycle Jam AMA Supermoto provides motorsport
fans with an exciting day of motorcycle racing action
showcasing all of the disciplines of the sport - road
racing, motocross and flat track in one race, said Joe
Mattioli, President of the Fairgrounds Music City Motorplex.
We are encouraging fans that attend our other great
motorsports events NASCAR Late Models and Super Trucks,
the All American 400 and DukesFest to come check out
