2008 KTM 525XC
Sport ATV - Continued
A cam style rear axle carrier is utilized with four pinch
bolts for securing the axle position, and also a bearing
carrier grease fitting is installed to easily grease the
axle bearings. Also, the axle lock nut is pinch style
to assist in prevent it from becoming loose while riding.
The wheel hubs are secured with self locking axle nuts,
which don’t require cotter pins to allow for quick
hub and tires changes. Black Aluminum wheels are installed
with 4 Ply Maxxis Razr tires, so the 525XC appears to
be ready to drive off the showroom floor and straight
to a GNCC race.
Magura Braking System is installed on the KTM 525XC
with steel braided lines for maximum braking power along
with multi piston front calipers and a single piston
rear caliper. The front and rear rotors are also drilled.
In addition to hydraulic brakes, the 525XC also comes
equipped with a Magura Hydraulic clutch system as well.
Both the clutch and brake levers are adjustable and
the reverse lever is mounted on the clutch perch, so
they can be operated with the same hand. Also, the parking
brake utilizes the front brake system instead of the
typically installed rear parking brake. The controls
are mounted on oversized tapered racing handlebars.
The typical LED lights are mounted on the dash with
the ignition and it also has your typically light/on-off/start
button switch assembly mounted on the clutch side of
the handlebars.
The fuel tank has been revealed as holding 3.7 gallons
of fuel with reserve, and a conventional flat side 39mm
CR Keihin carburetor is utilized instead of a fuel injection
system. The powerplant options available are the 525
or 450 engine. The 525 engine reportedly produces 53hp
while the 450 produces 49hp, which are impressive numbers
for a stock machine. Also, an aluminum body rear silencer
is utilized instead of a typical steal exhaust canister
for reduced weight.
As for the trim, the 525XC provides plenty of mud protection
with large front and rear fenders, and located on the
left side of the front fenders is tether cord, which
is required equipment for racing, and this is an industry
first for sport ATVs to come equipped with a tether
already installed.
