Murrieta, CA (2/2/2010)
- Less than a month ago, KTM
announced a 2010 partnership with legendary
ATV racer, Doug Eichner, to race the WORCS and
ITP Quadcross Series, but sadly, Eichner has
since decided to step away from racing full-time
in 2010 and focus on his family.
As many probably know, Doug Eichner, suffered
a serious head on wreck with John Natalie at
Glen Helen for round 7 of the 2009 WORCS Series,
which left Eichner with several broken ribs,
lacerated liver, and two broken wrist.
Eichner needed to have a plate and several
pins inserted into his right wrist, which was
the worst of the pair, and he spent four weeks
at home recovery from his injuries before heading
back to work at Fox Racing Shox as a welder.
Over the last several months, Eichner has recovered
fairly well form his injuries, and he is riding
again, but he still doesn’t have the same
strength in his wrist as he did before the accident.
If this wasn’t enough of a setback for
the Eichner family, his wife, Joan, was also
diagnosed with Cancer last year, so she has
just finished going to chemotherapy and has
just started the radiation stage of her fight
against cancer. Fortunately, Joan, is a coming
along well and is beating the cancer, but it
still has taken a toll on the Eichner Family.
With Joan still in treatment and caring for
their 6 year old son, Devon, Doug has decided
he needs to focus on his family instead of racing
for 2010, which is very understandable.
Doug has confirmed he has retired from racing
the WORCS Series, but he isn’t completely
done with racing, and he still may attend a
few Quadcross or local California ATV races
this year, but he doesn’t have anything
immediately planned.
If Doug does decided to race, he will be on
the KTM as originally announced, and he is really
pleased with his new KTM ride, but he just needs
to focus on his family at this time.
Our thoughts and prayers at ATVriders.com,
go out to the Eichner Family, and we wish Joan
Eichner a 100% recovery from cancer.
