Waters Wins at Pismo; Takes Lead as WORCS Chase Winds Down
Justin Waters closes in on a record three ATV titles

Justin Waters
Toutle, WA (10/26/2007)- Coming into the World Offroad Championship Racing's Round 9 last weekend at Oceano Dunes, Justin Waters needed a nearly-perfect weekend to keep his championship hopes alive for at least one of the classes he competes in. With a win in Open A, fourth place in Production A and a remarkable come-back ride in ProAm final on Sunday - winning after an early crash and tire change put him more than seven minutes down - he dominated the amateur headlines for the weekend.

Waters had been training hard and tuning his 2007 Yamaha YFZ450 for extremely rough conditions, so he felt well-prepared.

"Although the course did end up being really rough, I don't think it ended up as bad as last year. If you were willing to jump outside of the normal lines you could still find something that was a little smoother. On the parade lap [of Sunday's ProAm Main] I took my time and looked where new smoother lines were going to develop. Most of the other Pro-Am riders weren't venturing out to those smooth lines which gave me an advantage."

"My Fox Shox gave me a whole new level of adjustability that isn't available on other shocks. I was able to more finely-tune them to fit my riding style and the brutal conditions. It was easy over the weekend to make a quick change to adjust for the ever-changing conditions."

All pieces of the suspension equation had to come together and hold up, to put Waters on the podium at an event full of other riders' DNFs.

"The Epic A-arms have held up all season without a single failure. I knew that I could trust they would last until the end at Pismo too."

With one round left in the season, Waters goes forward with the ProAm points lead, and a realistic shot at a record three titles in WORCS for this season. He's trying to focus on it as just one more race in the series though.

"No matter what I have to do to clinch the titles, I'm just going to go in and do my best in all three races. I'm going to keep my intense training up, and hope I get a little more luck."
