West Devon, UK (7/20/2009)
- Justin Reid and Team Can-Am took another moto
podium in the ACU British MMX Quad Championship
at the weekend, Justin finishing 4th overall
after adding a final moto 6th to his fantastic
opening race 3rd, the ever improving results
from a resurgent Reid the topic of discussion
for many in the paddock. Hosted by the Iveston
& Satley MCC at the spectacular Dean Moor Circuit
on the edge of the Lake District, the days action
proved to be fast and furious for the twenty
eight strong field who converged on the Cumbrian
venue for round six of the nine-round 2009 series,
the many spectators in attendance treated to
some spectacular racing during two hotly contested
motos that showed the true potential of the
Reid / DS450 Xmx combo.

Race One
Despite heavy rain prior to and forecast for the day of the meeting, race
morning brought sunshine and brisk winds that quickly dried out the
hardpack surface as the action got underway, so much so that dust played a
factor as the day progressed. Lining up in 8th with less than two seconds
separating the top ten positions, Justin got fantastic drive off the
concrete start to take the holeshot and lead the field around the sweeping
right hander for the first of sixteen laps. Setting a blistering pace as
he quickly found his rhythm around the fast and furious circuit, Justin
became embroiled in battles for position as the moto progressed, running in
2nd as the race approached half distance, Justin maintaining his relentless
pace for the remainder of the twenty-five minute plus two-lap moto to bring
the Team Can-Am DS450 Xmx home in a fantastic 3rd position.
Race Two
Another fantastic start to the final moto of the day saw Justin head out on
the opening circuit in 4th before slotting in to 3rd by the end of the lap.
Gradually increasing his pace in the early stages, Justin was pulling away
from the ensuing pack as he closed in on the leaders when his progress was
temporarily halted after losing drive coming out of one of the tighter
corners. Suspecting a possible thrown chain, Justin stopped at the side of
the track to assess the problem and dropped back to 8th as he got underway
and with a lot of work to do, but quickly regaining his composure and
getting back up to race pace as he negotiated his way around the fast and
dusty circuit, Justin used the excellent handling and power of the DS450
Xmx to again make his way up the leader board, taking the chequered flag
after thirty gruelling minutes for a well deserved 6th, the result taking
Justin up two places in the series to 5th with only a five point deficit to
4th.

'It was a pleasant surprise to wake up here this morning with the sun
shining, considering the weather that we had been forecast, as it can be a
nightmare here in the rain. I got a decent pick for the gate and slotted in
tight to the fence on the inside of the start straight, it looks quite
daunting but I got a good jump out of the gate and was able to make room
and let my Can-Am pull me through for the holeshot. This track is scarily
fast and there isn't much to separate the top guys, so it really pays to
get some fast laps down and make the break at the start. I tightened up a
little in the middle of the race and let Holmes past but 3rd is still good
points over my main championship rivals...
The second moto was going well and I was holding 3rd but unfortunately, I
badly missed a gear and thought that the chain had derailed so I jumped off
to have a look. It hadn't but by the time I got going again a bunch of guys
had got past and I had to work hard in the dust to get back up to 6th. 4th
is good but we could have had 2nd overall today so I'm really motivated to
get on the podium at the next round.'
