John Lawson Dies at Age 60

Baldwinsville, NY (12/3/06) - John Lawson passed away in his sleep of natural causes just a few days ago at home in New York. He just returned home after spending Thanksgiving weekend with his best friend, “Digger” Doug Gust, in Wisconsin. Over the past few years, Lawson has become Doug’s right hand man at and away from the track.

Doug wasn’t the only rider helped by Lawson as he has been around ATV racing since the late 80’s when his son, Randy, started racing on a Yamaha Warrior. When Randy, retired from racing, John remained attached to the sport and helped many different riders along the way including Women Champions Leslie Wells and Angela Butler while holding down a full time job as a UPS Truck Driver. After 30 years of service, John retired two years ago.

Over the years, John Lawson touched the hearts of many, and I am one of them. I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with John this year at the Nationals especially when I drove him to and from the hotel and track at several events. He lived and breathed ATV racing, and he had plenty of stories to share about his experiences over the years.

John’s son, Randy, said it best “There is no where else on earth he would rather be than at the track helping and watching all of you ATV lovers race.”

The Lawson Family personally invites everyone to attend John’s funeral in New York.

John Lawson’s funeral will be held at Falardeau Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 from 12:00-2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Randy Lawson via mail or Cindi Hart via Paypal
