DWT’s Jarrod McClure Fourth at Powerline Park GNCC
GNCC Pro ATV Racer Jarrod McClure

St. Clairsville, OH (9/10/2014) - DWT/ Jarrod McClure Racing’s (JMR) rider Jarrod McClure raced his way to a fourth place finish at the Powerline Park GNCC this past weekend in Ohio. His finish at Round 12 marks McClure’s ninth time in the top five this season, and has secured him fourth overall for the season with one race to go. JMR teammate Pro Am racer Randy Hamilton finished eighth place in the challenging XC2 Class for the weekend.

The Powerline Park facility was expecting some crazy weather conditions for the weekend as storms were passing through bringing upon the racers bone chilling temperatures, rain and even a mix of hail. It looked as though the track needed some moisture so racers were expecting a muddy but manageable course.

McClure could not get his ATV to fire on the line and ended up leaving the starting line dead last. He picked off a few riders going into the woods and made up some ground early on, but still was buried mid pack coming onto lap two.

“I really need to get my starts figured out. People don’t realize how important it is to be out front early. It’s a struggle coming from the back in the mud, I just kept charging all day. The track was really slick out there, but my DWT tires had great traction in the slop and the Baldwin motor had the grunt to pull through it”, said McClure.

McClure opted to not stop for goggles on lap two, which allowed him to get a few guys in the pits. He then hooked up with Brycen Neal and rode with him a majority of the race getting around him on the final lap, which secured McClure the fourth position at the checkers.

Jarrod McClure chose to pit late into the race to make up some time. His pit strategy paid off which moved him into fourth place before crossing the finish

“I knew no matter what I was not stopping for goggles on lap two. The pits were my only chance to get by a couple riders and I knew I would make it till the third lap for fuel. It just proves you have to be thinking out there not only about the course but pit strategy and things like that. I got two or three guys by not stopping”, said McClure.

McClure’s finish has him locked in for fourth overall for the season, marking his career best season in the GNCC pro class.

“It’s awesome to come out here as a little guy and be able to finish in the top 5. It’s getting harder and harder financially every year, but I am lucky to have some great sponsors to keep me going. Without their help I would never be here.”

JMR’s XC2 Pro Am Racer Randy Hamilton had a top five start, but ran into issues on the first lap when he tangled in a vine on the course, pushing him to the back of the field. Randy put his head down and was able to break into the top ten, but ran out of time at the checkers settling for eighth in the class for the day.

The JMR team will be ready to go at the GNCC finale in Crawfordsville, Indiana in three weeks. McClure has nothing to lose and is looking to make some noise at the last round!
