IXCR Round 6: The Badlands ATV
Race
Attica, IN - July 22nd
Attica, IN (7/24/2007) - Once again the
big man upstairs greeted us with picture perfect conditions.
Although a rain storm may have been nice to calm the dust
it was a b-e-a-utiful day! With lots in store for this
race the workers started early Saturday morning laying
out the track and getting ready for the big day. Yamaha
was there and was kind enough to loan Weigold Photography
a new Grizzly and the course workers a Rhino. We had 30
bikes for the morning race and they put on a good show.
Chris Bach lead from wire to wire and proved he had what
it takes to tame the badlands. Chris was awarded the Yamaha
Holeshot award and also took home the Fatheadz.com $1000
check.
Between the bike and quad races Troy and the boys from
the Badlands put on a great show in the side by side race.
I must say those guys are crazy and the passengers are
even crazier! I just can’t imagine launching one of those
beasts into the air but they had no problem with hang
time and even spending some time on their top sides! Great
show guys!
For the quad race we had our largest turn out of the year
with 136 racers. Everyone started heading down to line
up in the massive sand bowl where the starts would take
place. And right on time the flag dropped for the pro
row. Todd Demaree pulled the holeshot and was awarded
the Yamaha check. Todd came by me on my fourth lap and
that boy was moving! He had big $$$$ floating above his
helmet as he had a $1000 check from fatheadz.com waiting
for him when crossed the finish line first. Nate Beyers
had the lead for a while but found a tree that he didn’t
like so he decided to cut it down with his quad and that
cost him some time. Brent Howell took third and they all
seemed to be enjoying the seven mile course. With this
being a new location for the series there where several
who did not know what to expect from the new terrain.
The course had a nice mix of creek runnings, rock sections,
mud holes, hills, and sand whoops and sand whoops and
sand whoops and then some more sand whoops!!!! I heard
a lot of the GNCC racers say it reminded them of the Florida
race. With several new faces at this race I had trouble
remembering everyone’s name so I’ll tell you what I do
remember. Jeff Seelig continued his win streak, Jason
Meek showed everyone he is alive and well and can still
move on a quad! The Marshall brothers took 1st & 2nd in
the Vet class. And Kyrie Brafford got seventh in the 16-25
class meaning she passed a lot of guys!
A big THANK YOU goes out to Jim “Corn” Cobb as he gave
up his day of racing to help make this race happen. If
you raced on Sunday then you saw Jim riding that Grizzly
around retaping caution tape and helping downed racers.
He is in a very tight point’s battle but gave up his chance
to race to better our series!
The series takes a few weeks off and will visit the Lawrence
County Recreational Park on August the 19th. We hope to
see everyone again there!
