Las Vegas, NV (1/29/2013) GPS Offroad Products kicked off their 2013 racing effort this past weekend at Round 1 of the World Offroad Championship Series in Peoria, Arizona.  The tire and wheel retailer is supporting a number of professional and amateur racers with their Sun F tire and Goldspeed Racing Product lines.

Leading the charge in the Pro class will be Can-Am backed racer Dillon Zimmerman and Pro-Am Champion Collins Webster.  Keith Johnson will also be representing GPS Offroad Products on the new beadlock wheel from Gold Speed Racing Products

Zimmeran is coming off of a career best WORCS season, finishing 4th place in Pro points while also earning himself and Can-Am the Italian motocross championship.

Zimmerman also scored wins at the Canadian 12 hours of Le Touque and the San Felipe 250.  With an entirely new program, Zimmerman is excited to be starting this new phase of his career and has high hopes for the 2013 season.

“I’m really excited about the launch of GPS Offroad Products” said Zimmerman.  “Because they carry products from more than one manufacturer, I have a huge variety of options.  I’m able to pick and choose specific tire setups depending upon the track conditions.”

JRI Shocks is a major part of the new program for Zimmerman, along with RP Mobile Advanced Systems, FMF exhaust and Goldspeed Racing Products.
“We’ve been testing with JRI Shocks and they are working amazing.  We will continue to test but they are providing amazing support and their product is the best I’ve used.”

Also joining the team is Collins Webster, 2011 WORCS Pro-Am Champion and 2012 runner up.  Webster has been competing in the WORCS series aboard a Can-Am since 2011 and is pleased to partner with the GPS Offroad Products team as he makes his move into the Pro ranks.

“I’m excited to take my program to another level,” said Webster “Moving out of the Pro-Am class to the Pro class will definitely have its challenges.  I’ve been working hard these last few months and hope to exceed my goals for this year and continue to build off of my success.”

Both riders will compete aboard the proven and championship winning Can-Am DS 450 ATV.

As seems to be the trend the last few years, the skies opened up at Round 1 and racers were met with a waterlogged and rocky course where survival would become the name of the game.  WORCS officials literally bladed the starting line minutes before the race to remove as much mud as they could before the dead engine start.

Keith Johnson was the first off the line and into the first turn, taking the holeshot in his first ever Pro class start.  Zimmerman came off the line in 5th and by midway through the first lap had managed to work his way to the front of the pack but lost all of his tear-offs in the process and had to pit for new goggles.  He would later suffer a mechanical failure after losing the bracket for the voltage regulator and the rear shock reservoir.  The regulator and reservoir were both severed by the chain leaving Zimmerman stranded on lap 14 which was good enough for a ninth place finish.

Johnson would battle a stuck throttle and settle for 10th while Webster managed to avoid mishap and finish in 7th.

In the amateur ranks, Pro-Am rider Mike Sloan and Open A rider Travis Brown were the first to put GPS Offroad Products and Sun F Tires on the podium.

Brown dominated his class from start to finish aboard his Can-Am DS450 and Mike Sloan battled his way from a 12th place start to finish on the podium in the Pro-Am class.  After finishing in third place overall for 2012, GPS Offroad Products has high hopes of a Pro-Am Championship with Sloan in 2013.

In the UTV department, Nic Granlund made the jump to the Side by Side Pro Production class this season and will be running Sun F tires for the team in 2013.   Granlund got a great start and was in second place entering the offroad portion of the course but fell victim to a flat tire.  Several racers ironically had problems with the right rear tire including defending champion Ryan Piplic who had the same tire ripped completely from the machine.

Due to the less than favorable conditions, everyone is looking forward to familiar and hopefully dryer conditions for round 2 in Primm Nevada on February 9-10.
