(3/17/2009) The first race of
the season treated me pretty good. I never had
much luck at any of the Florida races, except
for now. The morning air was cool. Everyone was
so anxious and nervous. The National Anthem played,
10 seconds. The first row rounded the corner.
10 seconds, here I go. My tires spun. I couldn’t
get any traction. Going into the woods I was third.
The roots were horrible, tight spots and then
some clearing to make my break for the lead. As
I completed the first lap, my machine was bogging;
I held the throttle wide open to try and clean
it out and started to gain on the first row. Then,
there was that dreadful tree. I swear they just
jump right out in front of me. I got going again.
The whoops and roots were very challenging. I
had to stay focused and steer my way carefully
around them and the lapped riders. I felt the
heat of Jay Shadron on my rear. Not realizing
I was the leader, I came up to the finish area
and they thru the checkered flag as I came through.
It was then that I realized I not only one my
class but I was the overall winner. I cannot describe
in words the feeling that came over my body. It
was just awesome. One down, twelve more to go.
Good luck to all the youth riders out there.

suffered a chain failure, but still finished
8th place

I woke up at 6 am and stepped outside and it felt
like a good day for racing. We all headed to the
start, butterflies were starting. The flagman waved
the flag and I got the holeshot. I was leading for
the first lap and first overall. The second lap
was horrible for me. My chain started jumping. Thanks
to all the helpful people on the track that helped
me keep putting my chain on. I kept going at a very
slow pace to just try and get my laps in to finish
the race. I was able to get my third lap in, but
I am glad I was able to finish and not DNF. I finished
in 8th place. As I pulled into our pit, my dad checked
over the quad and realized that I blew the axle
bearings right out. Great job everyone; we’ll
see you all in North Carolina. I’d
like to thank all of my sponsors:
