2010 EDT
Classes and Status Update - ATV Flat Track Racing
Columbus, Ohio (12/4/2009) -
At the 2009 Extreme Dirt Track (EDT) Banquet in
Columbus Ohio, a major change in the EDT world
was announced. The former EDT Promoter Group has
been replaced with a new board that consists of
ATV racers and enthusiasts. What does this mean
to you the racer? You now have a dedicated group
of board members that are making decisions based
on your feedback and for the good of the sport.
It can be summed up in a simple moto ‘Ran
by riders, for riders’.
The new board has been hard at work planning
for the 2010 race season. Each week the board
holds teleconferences to discuss select topics
and to give status updates on action items. All
decisions are made via majority vote by the board
and then the results are documented in meeting
minutes.
Here are a few things you can expect
for 2010:
First and foremost, the Extreme Dirt Track Series
will continue to be AMA Sanctioned. Tom Coburn
(EDT Chairman) has been working extensively with
AMA and developing a working relationship that
will improve communication. It is felt that establishing
a better relationship with AMA will allow more
opportunities for the riders and ultimately growth
for the sport.
Secondly, the board is actively working on the
schedule which is nearing completion. The 2010
schedule will be issued within the next couple
of weeks. What you can expect is a seven race
series in 2010. There will be a mix of old racetracks
along with a couple of new locations on the schedule.
Additionally, there will be a mix of one day and
two day events. Sound exciting?
Lastly, the board has revised the class structure
for 2010. The majority of changes affect 2-strokes
and hybrid quads. Specifically, the 4-stroke classes
have been replaced with 265/450. Just as in years
past, 2-stroke’s with a maximum displacement
of 265cc will once again be allowed to compete
against production bikes and hybrids. The Pro-Lites
class will no longer be production only. This
class will also allow 2-strokes with a maximum
displacement of 265cc and hybrids to compete in
the same class. Similarly, the Women’s class
will no longer be production only.
As for the youth riders, the 70cc shifter class
has been eliminated. To compensate, the minimum
cc limit for the 90 classes has been reduced to
65cc. This will allow Youth riders 8 years and
over with 70 quads to run in the 70 class and
select 90cc. A complete list of classes is provided
below.

Again, this is at the sole discretion of the track
owner and pending insurance requirements. There
will also be a new ‘Team Exhibition Team
Race’. This will prove to be a fun and entertaining
race as amateurs and pro riders battle it out
and represent their elected team. More to come
at a later date.
2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year. Stay
tuned in for upcoming press releases on next years
schedule, website information, and supplemental
rule changes.
