ATVA Extreme Dirt Track Racing
Heads to South Fork for Round 5
Brand New Race Track for 2009
Taylorville, IL (8/24/2009)
- Round number five of the Extreme Dirt Track
series will be heading to South Fork in Taylorville,
IL on August 29th to test rider’s skills
on a new track design. This is the first time
since 2006 that the series has traveled to the
facility and the changes that have been made appear
to have med it worth the wait.
The event will be co-promoted by Rich Hetrick
of Tri City Speedway and Roy Reed of Ozark Mountain
Park Raceway, who also cooperated on the track
design. The completely new layout of the track
has plenty of long straights for riders to test
their horsepower and also includes several sweeper
turns, a few tabletops and split lanes to keep
things interesting. “We’ve spent a
lot of time getting things ready and we are excited
to be returning to South Fork,” stated Roy
Reed.
The new track is also in a new location. “The
old track is now a gravel parking lot and the
new track is where the old parking area used to
be,” Reed explained. No matter where the
track is located, the expertise of both Hetrick
and Reed in TT track design will ensure that riders
and spectators alike will be pleased with the
new layout.
Round five also will prove to be a good one between
the pro ranks as current champ and pro points
leader Harold Goodman, with 115 points, tries
to defend his title against Pike’s Peaks
champ and record holder, Michael Coburn, who is
within striking distance of the championship with
105 points. Another great class to watch will
be the Women’s class as Paula Shank tries
to continue her winning streak and go for a possible
class sweep.
Although smaller in stature, the Super Mini class
has all the non-stop action of the adult classes
with Garret Keister holding the points lead with
111 points, but Daniel Bennett is quickly approaching
with 105 points. In the 90cc Production Auto class,
Alex Ernest is holding on to a comfortable points
lead while Kevin Haggerty is leading in the 90cc
Production CVT class.
With only two rounds left in the 2009 season
the points races are at a boiling point and many
are hoping that new unfamiliar track will help
to even the playing field, especially in some
of the tighter points chases. If all the TT action
isn’t enough, the South Fork Dirt Riders
Club is also hosting Hare Scrambles on Sunday
August 30th.
