New Brunswick to Receive COHV Grant
Funding to
Promote Responsible Off-Highway Riding
Ontario, Canada (5/30/2007) -
The Canadian Off-Highway Vehicle Distributors Council
(COHV) announced that the New Brunswick All-Terrain
Vehicle Federation (NBATV) has been approved for project
grant funding in the amount of $62,130 that will allow
them to offer free safety training for youth under 16
years of age and for the creation and distribution of
safety, environment and public awareness brochures.
"The NBATV believes that public access to educational
tools and safety training is key to responsible family
outdoor fun and activity on appropriate youth-sized
machines." stated Jacques Poirier, General Manager
of NBATV. "The Canada Safety Council curriculum
being taught by our certified instructors is based on
field-tested techniques that provide youth with a fun
and orderly way to learn proper ATV operation. The COHV
funding along with an additional $25,000 investment
by NBATV is a vital first step in preparing our youth
in understanding the rules around safe and enjoyable
riding."
Including the funding for NBATV, the COHV approved
this second round of funding in the amount of $685,100
in sustaining and project funding grants for use by
provincial and national All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and
Off-Road Motorcycle Rider Federations to help develop
and implement rider safety, training, education and
environmental initiatives for 2007.
"So far, in 2007, over 1.5 million dollars has
been approved by the COHV member organizations. COHV
member companies such as Arctic Cat, BRP (Can-Am), Honda,
Kawasaki, KTM, Polaris, Suzuki and Yamaha recognize
and support the value of this initiative, which will
help ATV and off-road motorcycle clubs to continue maintaining
well-signed, easily accessible trail systems that help
promote safe and environmentally responsible riding."
commented Bob Ramsay, President of the COHV. "By
allocating these funds COHV and its member companies
are enabling rider federations to take a leading role
when it comes to reinforcing the importance of safety,
education, training and protecting the responsible interests
of local OHV club members."
