Europe (6/26/2009) -Justin Reid
moved to 7th in the 2009 ACU British MMX Quad Championship
at the weekend, the multi British and Ulster Champion
taking a fantastic 4 – 4 scorecard and 4th
overall on the day at the demanding Culham Motocross
circuit in Oxfordshire. Promoted by NORA-MX at the
hardpack circuit on the banks of the River Thames,
the 5th round of the series provided some fantastic
racing throughout the day for the large crowd of
spectators, Justin involved in epic battles for
a top three position in both motos and delivering
an outstanding result for Team Can-Am and the all
new DS450 Xmx.

5th fastest in timed practice

Race One
Quickly adapting to the new track layout,
the circuit running in the opposite direction
to the last time he raced the venue in 2008, Justin
posted 5th fastest in timed practice securing
a good pick of gate. As the mechanical gates dropped
for the first of the two twenty-five minute plus
two-lap motos, the Rotax motor pulled strongly
on the steep uphill start and propelled Justin
around the first corner in 6th, Justin finding
good lines in the early stages and making his
way up to 5th by the end of the opening lap. Circulating
at a blistering pace but with the circuit difficult
to pass on, Justin was involved in a three-way
battle for 3rd for the next eight laps with just
over a second the gap from 3rd to 5th, making
his way up to 4th with ten minutes remaining.
Trying new lines and nose to tail with 3rd as
the two lap board came out, a slight mistake with
a missed gear change on the exit of a tight corner
saw Justin drop back a little in the closing stages,
Justin charging to the line to take the chequered
flag after fifteen action filled laps for a superb
4th.

Race Two
Another excellent start to the final moto saw
Justin break the timing beam for the first time
in 6th as the field headed out on the first of
fourteen laps. The two days of racing had made
an impact on the surface conditions with the circuit
demanding the most from riders and machines, but
using the excellent PEP suspension Justin attacked
from the off and moved up two slots for 4th on
completion of the first full lap. In one of the
closest races of the series to date, Justin fought
a four way battle for the lead in the opening
half of the moto with less than two seconds covering
the top four positions, Justin’s relentless
pressure paying dividends at the halfway point
as he moved up to 3rd. With the leading duo in
his sights, Justin began to increase his pace
and closed the gap, but a nasty kicker on the
face off a jump saw Justin land heavily and losing
a little time. Forced to reduce his pace while
dealing with effects of a nasty head cold, Justin
dropped back to 4th and was coming under pressure
for position, but determined to maintain his position
Justin battled valiantly through the pain and
resisted the challenges, Justin pulling away in
the closing stages and taking the chequered flag
for another hard-fought 4th, his outstanding result
reducing the deficit to a top five position in
the series to just ten points.

Reid
‘I’m glad to finally have two decent
finishes and show the true potential of the Can-Am
DS450 Xmx. For a near standard bike, it performed
absolutely brilliantly today. I’m a little
frustrated because I feel that two 3rds was achievable
but I’m still happy to have scored good
points considering I was finding it hard to breathe
properly in the second moto due to my cold. My
focus is firmly set on winning motos, which I
feel we proved is within our grasp today…’
