Europe (5/12/2009) -The fantastic
GP circuit at Porters Pit, Desertmartin, provided
the venue for the third round of the 2009 ACU
British MMX Quad Championship on Saturday the
9th of May, Quad Racing Ireland promoting the
event in association with the Quad Racing Association
UK. Travelling the relatively
short distance from their Comber base, Justin
Reid and Team Can-Am were
eager to deliver a good result for the local supporters
and spectators, and
as the dark Desertmartin sand was washed from
the Team Can-Am DS450 Xmx in preparation for the
journey home, Justin had once again shown that
he is
returning to the form that helped him to multi British
and Ulster Championships, Justin finishing a fantastic
3rd in the final moto, the result making up for
a disappointing opening moto retirement at the hands
of a wayward rider. Race One

Despite constant rain in the run up to the event
having flooded many parts of the track, Billy
McKeown and the rest of the hard-working crew
from Cookstown & District MCC worked tirelessly
with QRI to prepare the circuit and, come race
day, had worked wonders. Securing an all important
front row start with 9th fastest time in the tricky
conditions, Justin got a good start and broke
the timing beam for the first time in 9th as the
field headed out on the first of seventeen laps.
Moving up to 8th halfway around the following
lap, Justin was on a charge and challenging for
7th when things went drastically wrong, an out
of control Suzuki hitting Justin in mid air and
completely flipping both him and his bike. Justin
landed
awkwardly and was then run over by another competitor
who couldn't avoid him. Taking time to regain
his composure and getting his bike back on to
the circuit, Justin remounted but was unable to
continue at race pace, Justin forced to retire
and take no further part in the race.

Justin was
able to move up to 11th overall for the
series

With bright sunshine overhead the riders lined
up for the final moto of the day, Justin putting
the opening moto disappointment behind him and
focused on the task at hand. As the gates dropped
the Rotax motor powered Justin up the start straight
and around the sweeping right-hander in 8th. With
the racing having taken it's toll and the circuit
now extremely demanding, Justin used the excellent
handling of the DS450 Xmx in the opening stages
to scythe his way through the pack, the PEP suspension
soaking up the bumps and allowing Justin to move
up to 6th by the end of the opening lap. Settling
in to a fast rhythm and with the track coming
to him, Justin increased his tempo as the race
progressed, moving up to 4th with less than
ten minutes gone before moving up to 3rd as the
race neared the halfway point, Justin comfortably
holding the position for the remainder of the
twenty-five minute plus two-lap moto, Justin taking
the chequered flag to the applause of the crowd
for a superb 10th overall on the day and moving
up to 11th in the series.

'I was absolutely livid when I was taken out
in the first race as I felt that a really strong
finish was on the cards here today. There is just
no place for that type of riding anywhere, never
mind at this level. Sadly I couldn't continue
as the throttle cable was badly kinked and holding
the throttle wide open. I was worried that there
might have been ligament damage to my right knee
but I iced it straight away and it felt ok when
the second moto came around, plus adrenaline is
a wonderful pain killer! The track was as gnarly
as I have ever seen it and it certainly seemed
to take it's toll on a number of guys as they
fell off the pace really quickly but
it's in these conditions that the Can-Am really
shines - also, I don't think that it's much of
a surprise that it was a PEP clean sweep on the
podium in both motos. I'm pumped to be back on
the British podium again, the first time for Can-Am
and can't wait for the next round where we can
keep this momentum going. I'd just like to thank
Val Bell and Tony Nash for all their efforts in
bringing the British Championship back to Ireland
again this year and to everyone that showed their
support today.'
