Europe (4/16/2009) - Tuesday the
14th of April saw Justin Reid and Team Can Am travel
North West to County Tyrone for the opening round
of the 2009 Ulster Premier Quadcross Championship,
Ballymoney and District MCC promoting the event
at the demanding Donemana Race Circuit for the first
of the six round series.
Bolstered by a fantastic result in the ACU British
MMX Quad Championship
opener ten days beforehand, Justin was keen to
get his 2009 Ulster Championship campaign off
to a flying start, and as the Team Can Am DS450x
MX was packed away for the trip back to his Comber
base after a frantic days racing, Justin had overcome
the disappointment of a thrown chain in the opening
race to comfortably win the closing moto, Justin
decimating his opposition to take his first race
win of 2009.

Race One
Despite heavy overnight rain the sandy circuit
held up well in timed practice, Justin posting
5th fastest with just six-tenths of a second the
gap to 2nd. A fantastic start saw Justin blast
up the start straight and around the left-hand
first corner in 5th, as the twenty-eight strong
field headed out for the first twenty-minute plus
one lap moto. Quickly settling in to his rhythm
in the early stages, Justin moved up to 4th by
the end of the opening circuit and in to 3rd on
the following lap while closing quickly on the
leading duo, but his progress was dealt a cruel
blow, a huge stone
hitting his chain guide, derailing the chain and
jamming around the sprocket, Justin unable to
rectify the problem trackside and forced to take
no further part in the race.

performance of the DS450 Xmx is incredible...

Race Two
As the gates dropped for the second and final
race of the day, Justin once again got a superb
start and slotted in to 5th around the first corner.
With the sandy Donemana circuit now at it's roughest,
suffering from the effects of back to back racing
in the traditional Easter two-day meeting, the
track was demanding the utmost performance from
man and machine. With the Carlisle tyres transferring
the awesome Rotax power of the DS450x MX in the
deep sand, Justin set a blistering pace from the
outset of the race, moving up to 3rd by the end
of lap one before slotting in to the lead on the
next lap. Attacking the circuit in the opening
stages and with the PEP suspension soaking up
the bumps beautifully, Justin gradually opened
up a ten second gap by the halfway point, lapping
almost one and a half seconds a lap quicker than
his rivals in the process, Justin unchallenged
for the remainder of the race and taking the chequered
flag after thirteen laps for a fantastic first
race win of 2009 for himself and Team Can Am.
Justin Reid
'The chain derailment in the first moto is just
one of those racing incidents that you would rather
forget - but they just happen from time to time.
The second moto was good - I took about a lap
and a half to move into the lead then just pushed
hard for about three laps. After that I simply
kept and eye on second place and maintained the
gap as I still am a little tired after competing
in the Floyon 10Hour race in France a couple of
days ago. The performance of the DS450 Xmx is
incredible and I'm really looking forward to the
British Championship round next weekend and keep
this momentum going.'
