KTM's
Paul Holmes Podiums Again at Drama Packed Dean
Moor
Round 6- ACU Brith MMX Quad
Championship
United Kingdom (7/30/2009) - aul
Holmes made it five podiums from six at the latest
round of the 2009 ACU British MMX Quad Championship
on Sunday the 19th of July, the Team KTM UK rider
putting in a superb performance to take his KTM
505 SX ATV to the third step of the podium and
maintain his challenge for British Championship
honours.
Promoted by Iveston & Satley MCC at the
picturesque Dean Moor Motocross Circuit near
Whitehaven, the extremely fast hardpack venue
on the edge of the Lake District did not suffer
the heavy downpours that had been previously
forecast, blue skies and a brisk wind quickly
drying out the circuit with dust becoming a
key factor as the day progressed.
With some closely fought battles and fantastic
racing action entertaining the many spectators
who had travelled to the Cumbrian venue, the
day was not without problems or drama for Holmes
and his team-mate James Hellewell, a bittersweet
result for the team seeing Holmes put in a magical
display to fight his way through from just inside
the top ten on the opening lap of both races
to finish 2-3 and 3rd overall, Hellewell’s
amazing progress from a second row start in
to points scoring positions in each moto thwarted
by mechanical problems in the opening race and
two separate punctures in the final outing.
Holmes’ amazing consistency on the KTM
505 SX, finishing in the top three in ten of
the twelve moto’s to date, has increased
his lead over 3rd in the series to twenty-three
points with a twenty-six point deficit to the
leader, while Hellewell still remains well placed
for a top twenty finish with three rounds remaining.
Paul Holmes
“ It’s been a good end result today
but I feel a little disappointed that I didn’t
finish higher. The start line at this circuit
is concrete and I struggled to get away which
left me with a lot of work to do in both races.
The circuit is really fast and not the most
technical, and the combination of dust while
battling in a group and the pace of the guys
I was racing with made it really difficult to
pass. By the time I worked my way through the
leader had pulled quite a gap, but it felt really
good to be able to make up so many positions
and to get on the podium again. The KTM 505
SX was handling really well and I think the
consistent results have shown just how good
this bike is in only its first year, with this
in mind and three rounds to run I feel the race
for the Title is far from over. ”
James Hellewell
“ It certainly hasn’t been the best
day or result but that’s all part of racing
I suppose. I felt really good coming in to this
meeting as I really like this circuit and have
done well here before, but sometimes things
don’t go according to plan and you have
to put things behind you and move on, although
to get another rear puncture after already stopping
to change one in the second moto was a little
hard to take in. I’m obviously disappointed
at coming away with no points, but I know that
my speed and fitness are really good and that
I’m capable of running inside the top
twenty, so with three rounds remaining I’m
feeling confident that I can get more points
on the board and finish inside the top twenty
come September.”
